I started playing about 5 years ago and I'm really getting into it. I was never a tennis player(they seem to be natural at it) but it's a lot of fun and not as much ground to cover as tennis. Anyone else?
This thread should be titled, "When Did You Figure Out You were Getting Old?". Next thing you know it's Saturday morning shuffleboard and making sure you get the early bird dinner special.
Well, I did just turn 58 on the 22nd of April. However, there are plenty of young folks playing.......those fuckers.
I kid, I was in a weekly shuffleboard game. Condo I just sold was going to set our tennis court up for pickleball so I was going to try it. Place I am looking at has bocce courts, which I started playing about 39 years ago when I was 19, so I'll be getting back into that.
I was an upper intermediate tennis player into my early 70's. I loved the sport. Then started having balance problems and was diagnosed with neuropathy. Sadly, I had to give it up. I tried pickleball thinking if I didn't have to run as much it would be better, but it was actually worse because the smaller court means you have to change direction more often. So had to give that up too. It's all the rage now among seniors. They even have televised tournaments. Next time you watch the news, check out how many drug ads are showing old people playing pickleball. LOL.
A month after this post I moved to a place that the pickleball court is right across the street next to the bocce, and now I am playing multiple times a week. I also found a bar that has half price well drinks and appetizers from 3-6 every day, which I have made my regular stop.
I lived across from a bunch of tennis courts and I like to keep the windows open whenever it's between 60 - 95; the tennis game was fine except for when a "grunter" was playing. The pok, pok, pok of pickleball would drive me crazy.
