The only way to describe this deal is selfish. Douglas put his job over the good of the team. What an embarrassment.

I feel that any talk of it now is silly. Woody the Rube has his hooks in again. That's a bad sign. Scene. Both.

He placated someone not in the business of football. Remember when Joe Douglas got Woody Johnson to butt out and let him do his job? That was cool. :/ I've said this in the past, but why do people who aren't surgeons insist on running around with a scalpel? I don't know if WJ can even cut a steak on his own plate. Douglas folded like a cheap suit. Death is upon us, Woody the Rube of the Jetspocalypse strikes again.

I don't think this overpay was Woody, I think it was Douglas mortgaging the future to save his job.

One thing is for sure... JD's gamble better pay off and that 18-31 record should be much closer to .500 than it is now or else....

Who is to say. What is Woody was the insistence on the pursuit of Sir Flake in the first place, shaking his fist, stamping his feet, making threats, all that kind of third grade shit. "I want to win!" That's great, jackass. Not you, him.

This has Woody’s little hands all over it.

Unless there's real evidence that Woody forced the trade to happen, this is just looking for a scapegoat.

JD gets too much credit for getting (really) lucky in last year's draft (especially given how bad some of his other drafts have been) - he did a good job in moving Jamal out but his expensive FA signings generally haven't been great, his handling of the QB position has been truly awful - this feel like it has desperation running all the way through it - the Jets have had some truly abysmal GMs, JD isn't in that camp but neither has he done anything that makes me think he deserves some huge extension (especially not given this deal)

i was thinking, almost rooting that we'd get left at the altar... as it'd re-establish the basement for all franchises.

    makes this season quite intriguing

Almost feels like the Jets taking a bath on this deal was a prerequisite to completing the deal.

I think it’s pretty obvious Woody forced this one. The jerkoffs jumped on a plane to go wine and dine a guy under contract without a trade in place.

With that in mind, it’s not like Douglas had some razzle dazzle plan and it doesn’t sound like they were ever really in on Carr even with the visit.

The other strong possibility is that Woody forced the deal under whatever terms JD could get. I'm so jaded from watching 20 years of mismanglement at this point that I can't tell what disasters are the result of Woody's bad hires and what disasters are a result of his bad mandates.

I guess it doesn't really matter.

A great trade. Woody would settle for no one else. So jd had to make a deal. I have said many times, it costs to get something good. Our cost is 2 slots in the first, elijah moore and next years first. Considering jd had to acquire ar, this is a very acceptable cost. More than acceptable as this has nothing to do with the future. This is win now andnothing less. Assuming Q resigns, the team is markedly improved for 2023.

This is entirely speculation since nobody outside the organization knows what really happened... But I think what happened is Douglas told Woody that he was planning to trade for Rodgers, Woody acted like a 10 year old like he always does, Douglas found it harder to trade for Rodgers than he expected because Gutekunst was like "Lol you need us or you're gonna get fired after the season," and Douglas finally caved.

Woody’s over the top glee when this was first mentioned is evidence enough. If he had JD handling it by himself, this would have never happened. Woody has no clue in regards to negotiations.
