Agree completely, there in lays the problem for us. Even though I think it was a boat load of money for Orlando, so I could understand JD pumping the breaks. .At this stage, my though is with all the other nonsense going on, why isn't JD extending McGovern as insurance for a year. Even if we pick up a C and T in the draft that still would be prudent
I read that the Jets met with this kid today... Mazi Smith. He's the kind of big kid we need, to help stuff the run. Had a gun rap, & was placed on a year probation (gun in car no permit), but he seems like a smart kid, maybe a nice developmental project. A bit about him... https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Mazi-Smith-DL-Michigan .
Colon and Schwetzer are all right. Basically even swaps for Herbig and Feeney. So far the worst OLine in the League did not get worse. Now, time to improve.
very intriguing player and I did some research into him. He would be amazing next to QW and helping w run stuffing but has traits to pass rush as well. He is projected in the 2nd wonder if we would jump on that he is a position of need but seems high
Yes, will draft oline once again. I don’t have a problem with that. They are lucky AVT can literally play anywhere
They need to keep AVT at one position unless there is a dire emergency. Doesn't it occur to anyone that he could have gotten injured last year BECAUSE he kept getting moved to different positions?
You can injured playing any position. I would need hard statistical evidence to consider that. And I mean hard. Otherwise is just talk. Did a position switch in college directly lead to an injury?
That is a good point. It's not like someone fell on his knee or he got ankle stuck in the wrong place. It's a triceps, which means he probably twisted it during a battle with DLine. Probably on the bend. I would say it is best to keep AVT at inside at Guard where the Jets originally projected him. Hopefully there will be ample solid tackle back-ups next year, where there won't be an emergency to move him to tackle again.
When you are a guard it’s more nose to nose. When you are a tackle you have to stretch arms out more since the edge has room. He tore his triceps. It’s a very good point
I think is a very good point. Different positions require different body movements and the use of your extremities/leverage varies. If you don't practice those moves as often it doesn't come as natural and the tendency to overstretch your muscles is higher causing injury. .
An upgrade at center would be a good thing this season, but that would probably mean not drafting one early.
It puts off drafting a center and this OL is never going to stabilize until the Jets find a good young draftee (the cheap and appropriate option) or steal somebody else's 26 year old franchise center (the Mawae option.) We keep plugging 29-37 year-olds into the equation and that's why we're looking for another fast fix every year and it is why the line is a bleeding downtrodden mess by the middle of November every year. What exactly was Joe Douglas supposed to be good at again?
ANYBODY is an upgrade from Feeney. He didn't do squat for the jets for 2 years. He couldn't move my 89 year old mother-in-law off the line of scrimmage.
