I think this has been a done deal for a week and the players just found out about it yesterday but were told to run it back because Rodgers wants to announce it himself.
Lazard’s cap number this year will be far lower than Davis’ Lazard + $5-6 mill in cap room + whatever draft pick we can potentially get for Davis is in not a lateral move
Love his blocking chops. With his familiarity with AR, hopefully we get what we hoped to get from the CD signing.
This is a really good move. Besides the obvious connection to Rodgers and knowing Hack's offense, Lazard gives us a really big target in the red zone. Remember last year when Davis was hurt, and he was hurt a lot, we were extremely small. Mims didn't play well. For that matter even Moore didn't play well. Mims is probably gone, and if Moore sucks again or Davis is hurt again we can put GW, Davis, and Lazard on. You can never get enough good WRs, and Lazard is good. Price is fair too - 11 mil per year over two years, basically similar deal as Davis.
Won't argue Moore was a disappointment but it also felt like he was WIDE OPEN at least once a game and just wouldn't get a look
Yes, he had his moments, but I remember he struggled outside, gave up on routes, which resulted in costly picks, could not bring his feet in on important downs. I think he is better than that, but overall his first two seasons were underwhelming, and it shows up on the stat sheet as well. Doesn't hurt to have Lazard, that's all I know. Basically so far we replaced Berrios with Lazard this year at WR, and this is a big upgrade. Price is right too: basically identical to Jakobi Meyers, who had nearly the same production and also signed for 11 per year with same guaranteed amount.
Lazard I think was a good pick up. Good size which we need. Now compare to Davis vs Lazard, whether they are typically the same player? Maybe they are similar in some ways. But Lazard and AR connection is far more important than building up one with Corey Davis. I don’t know how I feel about Moore. Maybe with AR he’ll be more of a factor but I really haven’t been too impressed with the ability to separate his defenders, nor improve the vertical game.
For whatever reason, Moore has been a huge disappointment so far…he should be producing more than he has. Part of it may be QB related, or maybe a coaching thing with MLF, whatever it is I don’t know, but huge disappointment right in line with our long list of bust 2nd round receivers so far. I do think he’s talented, though, but if he can’t show it with AR at QB, then he’s a lost cause…
As well as the fact Lazard catches the balls that are thrown to him and doesn’t miss half the season every year. He also blocks like a motherfucker and is a bigger target. He’s precisely the type of receiver you want as a second or 3rd option. Big target that moves the chains, and if the D finally clamps down on him then it pops the lid of the D for Garrett going deep.
