Jeff Smith is pretty much gone... they didn't tender him. As for the Lazard signing, I like it. I would've liked it no matter who the QB is. I just watched his highlights on YT, & he's a solid WR, not a star, and at 27 has a few good years ahead. My only question is - - since I don't really follow other teams, all I really know of Lizard is what I've seen against the Jets (I always liked him) - - is he durable? .
Gentlemen's bet you become a fan after you watch him for a few games--he's very good as a 2nd receiver. His passer rating when targeted was 116, 125, and 133 between 2019-2021. When Davante left in 2022 the rating went down to 84. Playing opposite Wilson should help a lot. Of his 8 reg season TD's in 2021, 7 came from the red zone. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/L/LazaAl00/touchdowns/2021/
Jeff Smith will be a Rodgers casualty, but it sucks because I think he's developing into a nice receiver. Every time his number is called, he performs.
Well, I hate this signing, but if it's the price of getting Rodgers to agree to sign, it is what it is.
How on earth can people not like this signing? C. Davis can't stay healthy and wasnt very good tbh. It didn't work out and now we have a guy who is a better compliment to Wilson, knows the system and can step in and help Wilson and Moore (maybe) in the wr room. This moves seems like a good one and you can move on after 2 years.
Like I said, he’s a fine player. As a number two option he had 513 yards. As a number one he had 788. The Jets wouldn’t have looked twice in his direction if it wasn’t for Rodgers. The receiver market is pretty much always going to be thin since good teams keep their big value free agents or trade them and the numbers are probably always going to be inflated unfortunately.
Sideways move roster and talent wise, bad move going forward. He is making the same as Davis this season, and we overpaid Davis. Now were over paying Lazard to make special 12 happy.
Wasn’t Lazard the player that knocked the cheese head off Sauce’s head in the tunnel after the NY/GB game? If so, I like it. Shows he has some balls and didn’t appreciate what he felt was a player disrespecting his team. Now bring that attitude to NY!
I’m really questioning what people on this site who call themselves Jet fans actually really know. This is a great signing he’s a really good player. How can someone say unnecessary or not a good signing? The Jets aren’t load at WR, this guys young and good. Mims is terrible, Elijah Moore is off a season of nothing and Corey Davis is always hurt. It’s a no brainer, excellent move.
Eh not quite sure I’d anoint Lazard the Packers 1 last year. He had one less reception than their starting RB. When Watson got healthy at the end of the year they were even in targets for the most part. Either way he’s a perfect fit next to Wilson and an upgrade over Davis in almost every way so I’m fine with this regardless of if it’s because of Aaron Rodgers or not.
The only real advantage Lazard had over Davis was he'd be a cheaper version of an overpaid WR. With them set to earn the same money this year there is no real advantage, except we extended an overpaid WR through next year instead of shedding them now.
Younger Faster Healthier Taller First down machine Better red zone target Better hands Better run blocker Chemistry with QB But no real advantage?
Right…it will take less than one game to prove this wrong and forget Davis and Berrios every existed. People are getting a hard on because of the list of suggestions floating about. Fact is he is a great blocker, is going to get tons of touches, or free Wilson to get more than his share.
Davis going to Green Bay as part of the Rodgers deal would probably make all parties concerned happy.
Other than chemistry with the QB, Lazard hasn't proven he's better than Davis. Even 5 seasons with Rodgers he's never matched Davis' ceiling. Davis also has a better first down percentage. Either way we were set to dump Davis' over paid contract. Now we have the same for two more years. Its a sideways move that will work against us going forward.
