I remember the grand old days when the little electronic thing you had to pay attention too was universally called the little bitch and nobody in their right minds wanted one. Those days coinciding nearly perfectly with the strong impulse to cross the street when you saw somebody talking to themselves wandering towards you on the sidewalk.

I remember when Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street were actually scary because nobody made high quality horror flicks in the USA.

Had to go to Hammer to get that fix before that.

I remember when eating a chicken sandwich at McDonald's was an otherworldly experience.

There are still air raid shelter signs up in Washington Heights. Weathered and beaten but still there. I wonder if they actually lead to shelter or to areas long cleared of all the pre-positioned supplies?

The McDonald's shakes used to be good. Now you can taste the plastic in whatever they're passing off as shakes.

I had a install job at a Bank out this way. This was one of the old school thick walled granite and brass banks from waay back. In the basement, there was a fallout shelter with all the original old supplies in it! I asked the Bank Manager if I could take some as a souvenir but he said the bldg. maintenance guy was holding on to them. I would imagine in an auction those items would be worth a few dollars..

The cheese lasts longer than the concrete in the building that shelters it.

When all the nukes have flown and everything else is gone there will be roaches surviving on gub'mint cheese.

Well, I remember we weren’t the only ones. There was a brief time in the 70’s or 80’s when a bunch of moms must have all read the same Good Housekeeping article. Carob made a strong comeback. And then was mercifully all dropped onto an ice float and pushed out to sea.

And way too salty. It was like multi-purpose hardened goo.

We used to use it to sharpen knives on. It was also great for catching pigeons.
