He's coming, baby! I can feel it! Woody reels in the big one! https://bleacherreport.com/articles...imistic-feel-theyre-poised-to-land-packers-qb
You've asked this same question a lot over the last few days. Methinks you're not a huge fan of our OL. However, an OL of; Brown/Becton/Rookie, Tomlinson, McGovern/Rookie, AVT, and Becton/Rookie/Mitchell, seems fairly solid to me. We've gotta get an answer at QB first, then the FO can shift to building the rest of the team. I fully expect one of our first few picks and/or some of the FA money we'll have will be used to address the OL.
I think Becton could be moved out if there is a Rodgers deal. I could see him being the player in the "pick and player" speculation
Don't think they'll ship Becton out he finally looks like he's trimmed down. If anything it could be Cory Davis that gets shipped out the Packers have been keen on him for a while.
It's possible. I'd think the Packers would prefer Elijah or CD in a player and picks scenario though.
Also a QB who actually knows how to read a defense, set protections or where the hot read is may help.. They're absolutely going to draft OL 13.
I honestly think between Becton and Brown, that's at least 1 OT position filled for the year (knocks on wood as to not jinx it). So draft an OT at 13, or trade back and recoup a pick or two you might lose with the Rodgers trade and take an OT a bit later (decent amount of OT depth in this class IMO) and then re-sign CMG and/or draft a center at some point and I think the OL is fairly settled. If they can stay healthy, I think they'll be a solid unit.
This all feels fake as fuck to me. Even If we land Rodgers, what's the compensation? Does desperation finally overcome JD? Then, I don't truly get the excitement I guess. Rodgers Is on the back nine of his career, truly sitting In the dark for days, contemplating retirement. So, he's already got one foot out the door as Is. Also, to me, It just feels like we are cheating. Trading for GB QB, who will always be viewed as a Packer. Not a NYJ. I think this Is the best scenario In an otherwise shitty AF situation. I'm not thrilled though. Maybe I got a broken circuit upstairs. (I know I do) lol Still. I can't shake It. I'm just not overly thrilled about It, unless the compensation makes sense and we actually get to the playoffs. We are essentially just putting a bandaid on a much bigger problem that will eventually come to fruition If not addressed appropriately. Sigh. The life of a NYJ fan.
Because his bonus money is prorated, Rodgers wouldn't hamper the Jets' cap situation. He would count $15.8 million in 2023 and $32.5 million in 2024, cap-friendly for a player of his stature. This is from ESPN. Interesting. I did not know that.
The issue with this is it kicks money into the backside of his contract to the point where we could be stuck with 30M+ dead cap hits in 2025 and 2026. First year, even the second one, are very palatable but come with some harsh long term cam ramifications.
I believe there will still be cap implications in 25/26 when he is no longer with us if we exercise those options, but hopefully the # won't matter as much b/c of the massive cap increase in those years (I believe it will hit 280/300m).
I have a feeling the trade compensation wont be THAT bad. I'm thinking 2023 2nd/3rd and a conditional 2024 pick that starts as a 3 and upgrades based on playing time and how the Jets season plays out (very similar to the Favre trade). I one wouldn't care to give up a 1st next year for him under this pretense, that means we've got a SB to show for it.
I get it, but with Zach Wilson playing like shit and essentially unplayable. Aaron Rodgers is the best bandaid you can get
Mark Messier came to the NY Rangers after winning 4 Stanley Cups with the Oilers. He won one with the Rangers and is considered a NY legend. It didn't feel "fake" to me when they won. I can't wait for Rodgers to deliver us the VLT!
