I can actually live with this signing if we DONT trade for dinosaur Rodgers and throw away the next 10 years.
Gase doesn't count. Everyone knew Peyton Manning ran the show. (Except for the Jets, apparently) If Hackett only had coached Rodgers, you could feel the same but that 2017 Jaguars season is impressive, especially since the Jets look like they want to be built in a similar way. Run the ball. Play top level defense.
This might be the single most ignorant post I have seen. Not calling names Ouchy, I respect a lot of your posts. Giving up a first and maybe a conditional 2nd is not mortgaging the future, not to mention a very reasonable contract. Saying that ruins the next 10 years makes little sense.
If the trade works out the conditional 2nd would be welcome, not to mention that "dinosaur" is younger than Brady when he won a SB and one year removed from back to back MVP's
For all you folks who are negative on Hackett please tell me whom you preferred. Saleh was not going to go from one inexperienced guy to another. Under the circumstances it was a solid hire.
Your right it was a little reactionary. How about ruin the next 5 years. I don't see Rodgers going for cheap or playing for a reasonable contract. Or even caring that much if we don't win.
His most recent results as an OC was nothing short of remarkable…. I’m glad to see we’re on the same page of valuing his most recent experience in the position he was hired for.
Who said we were letting him walk? Wouldn’t have had to until Qi’s payday which is just coming due now. Pairing him with Q we would have had a stud front, rather than getting gashed for years against the run. Giants have a solid player going on 5 years. And fleeced us on the escalator language avoiding the 5th turning into a 4th, while retaining the player. But hey we got Ahstyn Davis. Only a Jet fan would see that as anything but a fleece.
Rodgers numbers were down this year because the Packers lacked playmakers. Christian Watson came on later in the season but, not the same as having Davante Adams running down a long bomb.
His contract is what it is, 15mill this year is more than reasonable. So is 30mill the next year if he keeps playing which I believe he will. Giving up 1 1st rounder (we gave up 1 with ZW and are still in striking distance) isn't mortgaging the next 5 years either. It's just taking a shot, if we swing and miss so be it, atleast we tried.
Rodgers just trusts and likes Hackett so they have chemistry. This may be a case of a qb making a coach look good. As a Jets fan, that's what this will be and we will get a failure with Hackett with no Rodgers
