agree 100% here…I was banging the table to keep Moses and all I heard was “he wanted to play for a contender” bullshit that many players say. I call full on bullshit. It’s ALWAYS about the money…had we wanted to keep him I am sure we could’ve worked it out. I HATED relying on Becton at the time too…dude is a walking injury and can NOT be counted on…better not make that same mistake again this year and I don’t care what the fuck he’s posting on social media. I like JD a lot overall, but I am still disappointed in how he’s managed the OL. Hopefully he fixes it here this year.
They both suck Douglas and Mccagnan. Macc gets a lot of shit, rightfully so, for the hackenberg pick but at least he was a 2nd rounder, not 2nd overall!! Like Douglas’ Wilson pick And the best player on the whole team is still Maccagnan pick anyway. the weaknesses when macc got here were QB and offensive line. Those were the same weaknesses when Douglas took over and they are the same weaknesses now, years & years later!
The Wilson pick is on Saleh, IMO. The coach is ultimately responsible for winning on the field. It's difficult to accept that a new coach coming to the Jets with an unsettled (Darnold) QB situation doesn't get the final say as to who he wants to QB the team. His job depends on it.
It looked soooo much better earlier in the season, but at this point, you're spot on. You can build a team without a quarterback and compete here and there, but ultimately to be in it year in and year out, you need a star. Until he gets his guy, we will always be a fringe team playoff team that can get in, but not really compete to win it all. If they get Derek Carr, he won't be his guy. He'll be a competent placeholder and who knows how or when they will ever get their guy.
Nah. A rookie coach will never overrule the GM in a case like that. The Wilson pick is all on Douglas and his scouting team. They failed. Salah role was to hire MLF which was a mistake. Not Wilson.
The scorecard shows that MacCagnan had 1584 days as Jets General manager; Douglas is now on day 1323. The calculations show that JD needs to get to November 9 to have outlasted MacCagnan.
100% Douglas has just tried to blow hot air promises..couple that with Ownership that ONLY cares about their Investment Do any you posters on here realize that Johnsons 635 million purchase in 2000 has ballooned to 5.4 Billion dollars??? They are crafty getting you to play into their 3 card monty. The Johnsons are shills who produce shitty teams with shitty management ....And the dummie fans fill the stadium ..great Con they got going for two stupid brothers Dont go to games,or buy products....make them Sell the Team! It s only way out
No..my point is they have no real interest in producing quality teams all things being equal sure they share revenue ..of course But other owners like Giants are committed to hiring and firing UNTiL they find the best Our brain trust is brain dead ..that’s why I see a new owner as a potential way out But if J J doesn’t sell embarrass them with empty stadium !!!!!
He was a rookie HC. There's a learning curve and a rookie HC has very little power in the overall structure - he's just happy to be there. This BTW is one of the reasons the Jets are such a sadsack franchise. The guy who ultimately will be most responsible for winning games on the field is usually new to the job and under the gun and can't get his feet underneath him until we're 2 years in and he's already halfway out the door. Weeb Ewbank and Bill Parcells knew 99% of the details of the job on the way in. Walt Michaels had been with the team for years and had watched Paul Brown run things as a player. Rex Ryan was a rookie who inherited the Mangini build and ran with it. He was also his effectively his own DC and he inherited an OC who had been with the team in the role for 3 seasons already. Herm Edwards was a rookie who was given OC's and DC's with extensive experience to rely on. Basically if you're going to find a successful rookie HC he either has to have been a successful college HC or you need to give him some real experience in the coaches beneath him. However you're better off getting somebody who knows the job and isn't going to have to learn anything other than the players he is coaching.
Corporate sponsors will always guarantee there will never be an empty stadium at the Big AC. Factor in travelling fans and honestly, hometeam fans can be squeezed out without a lot of pain. They'll just sell more PSL's to Corporations along with entire blocks of tickets to out of town fans. Point being, until Woody dies or decides its time to move on, its a waste of energy to try and force him to do anything other than count the incoming cash losing team not withstanding.
I don’t understand the constant need for this ownership to keep giving out internships for the head coaching position. I get finding the next great coach is probably a thing that is considered but how many truly great coaches are there? It screams cheap more than anything though I’m not sure woody is necessarily cheap. I get that a lot of the retread coaches aren’t appealing but at least they’ve done the job. I would’ve hated McCarthy most likely but he would’ve been better than Gase. I would’ve loved Pederson over Saleh. There are options that are usually better than who we hire and somehow we always go for the poor choice.
Agree with all of this. And yet you and many others don't give ZW the same slack for being new to the NFL and trying to learn the most difficult position in sports OTJ. Especially when he was being asked to learn a system that LaFleur tacitly admitted he wasn't suited for, and yet did very little to try to change to fit his strengths.
The 2023 Off-season is Joe Douglas' biggest yet. He has built his core roster. It is solid. Now he needs to pick up the right pieces to make this a playoff roster. QB is important, as is the O-line and safety. He chose Robert Saleh as his Head Coach too, so he has to hope he hires the right OC. I like Joe Douglas but it is time to win now. And if the Jets don't, it may be time to clean house and start all over again. Douglas has done WAY more good than bad though. The team just has to win. That is what it is all about.
I too was very vocal about what a horrible mistake it was letting Moses go. Assholes like bickydick and cval were all over me telling me how stupid I was, that I was a Pats fan, a troll…. We let Moses walk to sign a contract for 3 years that was less than what we gave Brown to replace him for 2 years. The only reason we let Moses walk was Douglas’s arrogance of insisting his pick (Becton) was gonna be fine. Douglas should have never let Moses out the door. Furthermore I’m betting he’s just gonna count on Becton again this year.
Well, it does seem Becton has slimmed down quite a bit from most reports. That doesn't mean that knee isn't permanently damaged from the load its been carrying. I agree that JD did over estimate Becton last year and it stands a pretty good chance it will happen again this year. You can see the pattern with both him and zwilson with the refusal to cut ties when all the evidence screams that's the way to go.
I never said you were a Pats fan. And I'm not sure why you are constantly name calling. It's very immature.
