This has been a massive problem. If you don't go through the growing pains and allow the coaches to work through that adversity, we will always be a bottom tier team. You would think Woody would figure It out at some point, I'm beyond that hope now though.

I mean who from the list of our long list of failed coordinators has gone on to do anything noteworthy? I mean we took Jeremy Bates out of the fucking mountains, literally.

This. It's fools gold to blame a lack of continuity.. they've all been so bad none of them have had success elsewhere.

It's important to have continuity, but not at the expense of just doing it for the sake of it. If the OC is that terrible you just have to pull the plug.

It'll be years until we know, but I'll bet that MLF does not get another OC job for half a decade, if he ever gets one. He was not ready for the job. Plain and simple

when jets won SB, almost all AFL/AFC teams had QBs who called their own plays, except bengals, who used paul brown's messenger guard system on every play.

so having a former QB who actually played the game might be the best way to go.

I agree but the Jets have hired some serious turds and they had to go away as soon as possible. Bowles and Gase are perfect examples. On the management side, Idzik and Maccagnan were just the worse.

    yeah…uhm let’s see…the O scored 30 points and the D gave up a 27-0 lead…but yeah, let’s fire the OC

makes NO sense…does not seem like a well run team to me…

Updated list of people we've at least "spoken with" about the OC gig:

    Marcus Brady
Darrell Bevell (EDIT: Refusing interviews for teams, plans to stay w/ Dolphins)
    Nick Caley
    Kevin Patullo
    Brian Johnson
    EDIT: Nathaniel Hackett

I would expect they add a few more names to this list before moving along in the process.

He's been heavily linked with getting the Rams OC job in the recent few days

wooosh. not sure how I feel about Hackett. He had a good thing going with Rodgers but was a complete disaster with the broncos offense this year.

edit -- not liking this even more

The flaw in this logic is hiring neophyte coaches without a head coach pedigree in the first place (or any other key coaching position for that matter).

You would hope a head coach on their second stint would have worked through some of that adversity already and learned from it. In this market, there clearly is no tolerance for patience by the media or fanbase. You have to embrace that and harness it as an owner.

Reich and Payton have already interviewed for HC positions so you can count them out. But I'm sure people will be screaming we should have gotten one of them.

There were maybe 3 names I wanted nothing to do with going into this OC search. Hackett topped the list. Awful.

To do this right, we should have the QB in place BEFORE the coordinator. This is the type of organizational ineptness that has plagued the Jets forever.

Our hands are tied because we went all in on a project QB at #2

To be fair, what QB2 in any draft ISN'T a project? Fields is still a massive work in progress. Lance was a project that flopped. Mac Jones... guy hit his low ceiling year one.

Lots of Jets fans celebrating but this is bad. He's the only competent experienced coordinator available. The lesser of many evils.

    Bevell: Hey Robert, what's up?

Saleh: We need ya for the OC position on the Jets.

Bevell: Sounds good. I am worried about the QB position though. What are your thoughts?

Saleh: Zach is on a beach right now reading a book. His mind should be cleared and ready to roll by OTA's!

Bevell: I'd like to decline the interview for OC of the New York Jets.

    HANGS UP PHONE.

I guarantee you the #1 question they are asking every candidate is how they’d plan to rehabilitate Zach’s career. I don’t think Woody is committing big money/picks to brin a veteran QB this season. How do you hand over a quarter billion dollars and draft picks to address the ineptness on offense, and then let the guys who’ve brought you to this point of ineptness run the show? I’m expecting a guy like Tannehill to be the ceiling of QB’s we’d consider in FA.
