Was listening to Mike Westhoff this evening talking about how much he loves Carr, and he believes the Jets would "absolutely" be in the playoffs right now if Carr was their QB.
I'm in for Derek Carr. Unfortunately don't put any stock in what Colin Cowherd says. I think they'll need to trade for him though and I'm not sure what it would cost. I wonder if Zach would be part of a deal
Carr has all the leverage with his "no trade" clause. It will be interesting to see how the Raiders handle this.
We're good as long as the Jets don't give up a major asset for a guy they could sign off the street in a month. If the Raiders will take ZW in return that's fine. Saves us some cap space down the road.
That would solve two problems at once...hopefully. If they sign Carr, it likely means Zach isn't going to be considered a starter for them so it would be in his best interest to move on.
Right, for somebody like Carr who in theory still has many good years ahead of him versus somebody pushing retirement. The more I think about it, the more I feel if Zach has any chance to rebound, it'd be in a different place. Maybe a new OC here could help, but with Carr, it would take injury or really bad play from him for Zach to see the field again
I think it’ll be hard for Vegas to find a trade partner to give up significant picks AND take on that contract AND have Carr waive his no trade clause. Not when most teams will assume the Raiders are going to cut him and not pay his bonus. Unless the price is reasonable … say a conditional pick….maybe a third that can upgrade based on performance or results….otherwise it’s tough to give up a first and take that contract on…
When you fail to draft and develop a QB of your own, this is the situation you get in. I don't love Derek Carr or Jimmy G. Both obviously are huge upgrades to the current Jets QB room, but both are around the middle of the pack as far as NFL QB's though. That could be good enough for the Jets to succeed though with a strong running game and top defense. Besides those 2, not sure what direction Joe Douglas could go.
It's going to be a long ass off-season, every available QB from here to Siberia will be linked to the Jets, can't wait
I was thinking about that today. Not the worst problem to have, as long as they end up with a decent QB in the end. The issue is being linked to every QB and end up with Minshew and Zach in a Camp QB competition. I believe Joe Douglas will try to go big for a QB though.
The veteran who's brought in can be the bridge to a young guy taken this year, next year, or somewhere down the road.
I wouldn't even pay a 3d, forget the conditional upgrade. They are going to release him if they don't trade him. 3d rounder is a very good asset, and ours is 11th of the 3d round, not the comp pick at the end. Why give that away when we can just get Carr as a FA? Carr has a no trade clause. If he wants to go to the Jets we can get him as a FA. And if he doesn't, he won't waive the trade clause. The only reason I can think of is maybe it will make it more attractive for OCs. I guess if Reich says get Carr, and I am in, something like that. But still... Maybe a 5th rounder then? But not 3d. I wouldn't give up anything and just wait until he is a FA.
I mean if we are giving up a third and they take Wilson off our hands isn’t that a pretty good deal? But if he’s let go now we have to compete with more teams probably idk
And what’s funniest is none of them will actually end up here other than the mid level guys like Brissett or Minshew. Woody ain’t letting these guys off the hook for drafting and throwing Zach out there. You don’t get to fuck up that badly and fix it with huge money and draft picks. I think we’re rolling with the focus on Zach’s development. If he fails everyone’s getting fired next year.
