I don't think anyone is going to trade for him with that salary attached. I think JV said they have until 3 days after the SB to decide what they want to do with him.

Two things can be true. Derek Carr could be the Jets best quarterback since Vinny and he can also not be a winning quarterback. Two other things can also be true. Derek Carr could have good numbers but also not be a winning quarterback.

Unless we are getting him for pennies on the dollar via free agency this would be a typical same old Jets move. We would be a wildcard team with him at the helm. With a healthy Mike White starting all year we are probably also a wildcard team. This reeks of desperation and I would like to think that no one is under the impression they need to be desperate considering how methodical the last two years have been.

Anyone who believes Mike White is as good Carr is crazy. Would take Carr in a minute.

I'll just echo what others have said already.

I think Carr would be a huge upgrade for us but I'm not sure I'd be willing to part with multiple premium draft picks to get him.

If we could convince the Raiders to a Carr/Adams package, I might be willing to re-consider.

Not sure how accurate these mock trades are but how would you all feel about this for the Jets?

Personally, I don't like the idea of giving up a 1st round pick for a couple of guys who are already in their 30's but if that '23 1 became a '23 2? I might be interested in that. Might even be willing to do a '23 2nd and a '24 2nd.

For those that don't live on Twitter, like me, Josina Anderson insinuated this morning that Adams may want to get shipped out with Carr considering the main reason Adams went to LV in the first place was to be reunited with his old college teammate (Carr).

I can fully recognize that Derek Carr is just as bad as any option the Jets have had the past 20 years.

Again, as good as Garret Wilson is, and he has a chance of becoming a very special player, at this moment, he is nowhere near the talent of D'avante Adams. The fact that Carr cannot excel with a receiver of that quality is a damning indictment of his futility to me.

Josh Jacobs is better than any RB on the Jets roster, including Hall (At this moment)

After this year, D'avante Adams wouldn't follow Derek Carr to a strip club, nevermind the New York Jets.

The raiders just traded a 1st and 2nd to get Adams. You think their going to give him up for Elijah Moore?

It all depends on his own cooperation with the Raiders. If he tells them to go fuck themselves (he has a no-trade clause) they might be forced to release him since there’s a timer on his guaranteed money kicking in.

If he cooperates then yeah the price tag will probably be a one and a conditional two or three at minimum.

Wentz had two years left when he was traded: 22 and 28 mil. Carr, if they pick up his option, will have base of 33, plus 7.5 mil of his 42 mil dollar contract in 2024 becomes guaranteed on Feb 10.
According to the reports the reason why they don't want to play him is because if he is injured, his contract automatically becomes guaranteed. They would have to pick up his option if they want to trade him in the new League year, because trade deadline is over for this league year. Would teams give up a 1st rounder to take on 33 mil dollar contract in 2023, and then 42 mil in 2024? I am not so sure. Given his salary, I don't think they are going to get a 1st rounder, and there is actually decent chance they release him outright, like Washington did with Kirk Cousins.

The funny thing is thay he has absolutelyno reason to cooperate— Especially with the no trade clause. Why would he want to pick a team that needs to give up assets for him? Just let them cut you and sign there anyways. He has all the leverage.

So 2 good players on offense guarantees success? Good to know that the Jets are just 1 player away.

I think we have different definitions of the word excel then.

This will go down as Derek Carr's worst statistical year since 2017 and he's still 8th in the league in Passing TDs and 11th in yardage.

No one is saying Carr is Patrick Mahomes but he's a top 10-15 QB in the league right now.

Lots of good takes, pro and con, here. My feeling is that if Carr can be had either for no compensation, or reasonable compensation, and he's willing to come to the Jets and play in cold weather, it would be a good move. Lot of "IFs" there though. But even if there were compensation involved he'd be cheaper than Rodgers. And if he'd likely be much cheaper than Lamar Jackson (if he's even an option).

My ideal outcome would be getting Carr, signing White as the backup, and keeping Wilson as QB#3 for long term development. In any case, Carr would likely be the best QB we've had since Vinny.

Final Thought: I doubt he wants to come to the Jets unless we agree to really overpay him, in which case that would change my preference.

He has no leverage. He'll be going into year 2 of a 5 year contract, and still 3 off seasons away from any potential out. This isn't a situation where he is being franchise tagged and nobody in the league would tolerate him sitting.

Why would the Raiders cut a top 5 WR and risk incuring a 31 million dollar dead cap hit?
