ok I wanna hi-jack my own thread here a little...cinvis and Alio, please explain how Philly would have beaten New England if Owens hadnt played in the SB??? Owens was tremendous on that field that day and McNabb might have had the worst first and 4th quarters that a QB has ever had in a SB.
I'd feel more comfortable with a better manager but when a mentally ill person such as Ozzie Guillen can win a WS or a comatose Joe Torre can oversee a dynasty it's not my biggest concern.
Tremendous? What is your definition of tremendous jonny? I don't remember his stats, and I can't seem to locate them, but I don't recall them being very special. TO was always a distraction. Coming back after a huge layoff to play in the SB did not help Philly. They won without him, they lost with him back in the lineup.
122 yards no TD.....the layoff didnt hurt him one bit.....and I also think it was bullshit that everyone got on Owens for coming back!!! hes a star player and came back early from injury to play in the superbowl!!!! and asshole media people were knocking him saying"he just wants all the attention and yadda yadda"...I thought that was a complete injustice...and it plays right into my original point...If that Coles coming back early we'd be praising his toughness and be all over his dick...Owens does it and hes a selfish distraction...double standard my friend...no doubt
By the time TC rolls around in July this will be as meaningless as meaningless gets.. Coles is exactly the type of player Mangini wants on his team, these meaningless rants from him won't change that.
Oh brother, Why did I bring it up? I swore that I would never discuss it again. Damn. OK, Watch the game again. Or just trust me on these facts. The majority of Owens yards in that game came on 2 plays. Two beautifully designed and executed 'pick' plays. Why don't more teams use them? I know that they are illegal, but it is so rarely called a penalty. On both plays the Eagles had most of their players running crossing routes to the left with Owens crossing to the right. Freddie Mitchell creamed Owens man on both plays. He didn't show up much on the stat sheet, but IMO he was Phillys best player on the day with those picks. This left Owens wide open all by himself with no one between him and the endzone. TO got caught from behind on both plays. Those plays look great on the stat sheet, but Philly failed to score a point on either drive. If they run those plays to someone who could run, not hobble, they are both easy TD's and its a whole different game. Does it guarantee that Philly wins? No, but it changes everything about the end of the game.
Sorry guys, I still gotta agree with cinvis. Stats don't always tell the whole story. I know I remember thinking about how much TO was hurting Philly during the game. I'm going on that, and that alone.
i would think thats a paraphrase. that just doesnt sound like coles at all. he was a punk when he was younger, but hes been a quality citizen under mangini (as well as herm even though he called herm out). i doubt thats near what he said or meant. context....context makes the soundbite.
Owens maybe a a-hole but one thing you can't take away from the man is when he out on the field he plays hard 100% of the time.
For someone as tough as he is, he sure does bitch a lot. Here's an idea, after every grueling practice, you can take a nice nap on a pile of money.
If you really want to get into it, I suppose you didn't notice the double teams they had on Owens, towards the middle of the third which allowed the rest of the Eagles receivers to make plays. He really opened up the game for the Eagles offense so that they could get Westbrook involved a lot more.
Coles isn't going anywhere..Dude just likes to here himself yap and tries bustin Mangini's chops..I bet EM just laughs that garbage off
I believe Eric said in Mondays press conference that he wants the players to come and speak to him about any problems they had, that he is a basic work in process. So maybe Coles can go and tell him what he didn't like about training camp. Eric is reaching out for help from the players, infact he used Curtis as a sounding board this year.
