The reality is Coles had multiple concussions this year and his performance on the field is very likely to start declining sooner than later. Whether or not Mangini is going to tone it down or not isn't even an issue. Coles mouthed off under Edwards, Gibbs and now Mangini, in each case it was about money. Mangini saw the Pats cut a lot of good players loose over money and attitude. Don't be surprised if this one ends the same way. The guy has a very short window of performance left and I wouldn't be shocked at all to see this end in a bad way.

If Mangini doesn't want to hear it from Coles, you can all but absolutely guarantee that Coles will be gone long before next season comes around, and probably before draft day.

As you said, his window is small, so if the Jets are going to get anything from a trade involving him, it has to be immediately.

The answer will come after FA begins, IMO. Once we see whether the Jets make an attempt to bring in a receiver, we'll know whether Coles has run out of time.

The big question is, if we trade Coles, are we looking for a true #1 WR to bring in (not in the trade itself, but overall,) or does Cotchery get the bump, and we bring in another #2? JMac showed improvement over the year, but there's no way I trust him to be the #2.

I agree I wouldn't be shocked if Coles is gone.

i was gonna step in and say the same thing. camp is complete misery for players. those who are amped, those who bleed this sport, and those who even like hard work. ive done 3 a days. worst time in my entire life. you practice 2-3 hrs. eat cafeteria food, lay in bed for an hr or 2. then go back out for step 2. rinse and repeat.

of course people think thats sports suck it up you know what u got yourself into. trust me, once your in the ritual of camp your mind numbs and you become a drone. and the ultimate truth is you dont feel the rewards until gametime when your lining up and hearing the techniques over and over in your head, or flashing back to the triple digit heat when you ran a position drill 45 minutes with maybe 1 water break.

what he says about camp is even light talk, the things said between players in their dorm rooms is nothing media's would report.but sure it would be best if he just kept his mouth shut. I'm just going to chalk it up as a tired, dissappointed, outspoken player who was asked about the last thing he wanted to think about right after his season ended

I agree with you. Some fans want to close their eys to COLES stupid statements and rip TO and MOSS> COLES nonsense with LEBERFELD could have been a distraction to a young team preparing for a playoff game! time for him to shut up or make like a tree and leave!

I just saw Coles' locker room interview just now on TV and was shocked, quite frankly. Everyone was cleaning out their lockers and those who were interviewed had positive things to say.

Everyone except Coles, that is, who had to rehash Training Camp all over again and say (paraphrasing), "I'm not sure I can go through another training camp again, quite honestly. I'm really not looking forward to it in August." I was at TC several times last summer and, while it was very hot and yes, more strenuous than Herm's camp (then again, the Livingston Bearcats have a tougher camp), it wasn't something that couldn't be tolerated.

WTF is the matter with this guy? Contract not big enough? I went through 8 weeks of US Army boot camp, 3 weeks of Jump School and 6 months of OCS, got paid peanuts and hardly complained because it was something I wanted to do. If this turkey doesn't want to put out 110% at TC this year, let him sit on the bench while we give some other WR's the workout with the first team.

I'd be willing to bet he's quite alone in his dissention over TC. I'm just concerned that it'll rub off on some of the other players. We don't need this garbage at a time when most of the team is buying into the entire Mangini Program and wants to commit 110% to it. Something the matter with this guy...

I agree with you 227, although I think I can give him a break considering the situation. He has been beat to hell this year and is coming off a season ending loss. Sort of like Jason Taylor saying he was going to retire. After a long, hard season these guys need to get away for a week or two to heal their bodies and minds. The thing that scares me with Coles, as others have clearly pointed out, this is not a new thing. One has to wonder what he would have been like if they weren't winning some games this year. This certainly bears watching closely in the off-season...

I'm sure he will eventually tone it down.

If not, I fully expect the Jets to go after Moss.

They should go after him anyway. Why can't we have three good receivers? I can't judge Moss' last few years with the shwag QBs throwing the ball to him. Look how Coles numbers dipped when Chad went down.

I'm not for going after Moss unless he comes cheap. Mangini doesn't need any attitude players and he has just enough baggage to diminish his overall value, IMO.

As far as Coles goes, while Baamf has a good point about giving him some time off and maybe he'll come out of it, I have to also agree with Winston in that I could see this thing eventually ending badly for Coles.

While most find Coles' "penguin" remarks cute, I don't, because I think there's some sort of underlying disrespect going on there. I think Coles has a problem with anyone of authority, not surprisingly a result of his unfortunate childhood. Be that as it may, you don't see Chad Pennington making many "penguin" remarks, for example. He probably just doesn't find it funny or necessary.

But "penguin" remarks aside, Coles' latest criticism of TC probably doesn't sit well with Mangini, Tannenbaum or Woody. With all our Cap room, Coles would be smart to put a lid on it if he wants to finish his career as a Jet.

I hope so- I love Coles. I think/hope its just an example of a guy venting after a long season. He was banged up, no doubt. He's a guy who loves playing with Chad too.

We have to remember that Coles has gone through a lot of mental anguish in his life- he will wear his emotions on his sleeve. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. In 7 months, I bet he'll be ready to go.

Coles probably wouldn't have a problem with going to Tampa, Jacksonville, Atlanta or Carolina. He is after all building a 9 million sq ft home down in that part of the country and he only has a few years left. Why would he care who signs his checks?

For one thing, the sting of the playoff loss was less than a day old when he made his comments, so it's hard to go by that. Also, people have been trying to latch on to Coles' comments all year to create dissention and it hasn't been the case. As hard as he plays, if he's healthy I don't see a problem.

That's how I read it. What happens if Pennington goes down and isn't the starter or god forbid Clemens takes over next year or the year after. Loyalty to Chad isn't loyalty to the guy signing the checks.

Your obsession with benching Chad doesn't end with the season, does it? They've already stated that one of the core team policies is every job has to be won in camp and guess who is going to win it.

I guess we'll find out later this year? Anyway these comments don't really concern me, Coles has always been all talk off the field but a professional on the field.

I'm just curious, do you still want to fire Willie Randolph too?
