Starting this thread at the half time of Jaguars game. Unless a miracle happens, we will lose and close the year without a playoff appearance 12 years in a row. Longest streak in NFL currently. Not aiming Saleh or MLF or Ulbrich or Zach here but wish we didn't go all rookie 2 years ago.
The CS will be ok once they move on from Wilson. He’s a terrible QB and he’s literally demoralizing his entire team. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Saleh and the CS are fine. They've made some bad decisions but they'll improve.. Zach, on the other hand, is a FATAL mistake. It's him and the OL that's killing our season as we speak. It's like knowing you're fatally wounded. You're watching yourself bleed out and all you can do is watch......
This is the poorest offensive line play I've seen. You'll see no posts from me defending ZW, but I don't know who could do anything with this line-- maybe Randall Cunningham circa 1988 or Mike Vick from 2003? Not sure how anybody can evaluate QB play or Play Calling like this.
Sorry but they’re not “go backwards on offense” bad. It’s Wilson. The offense has no rhythm when he’s in. He’s inaccurate. He finally hits on the short passing game but he does it when we need 20 yards. He has tunnel vision. He can run for a first but throws a crappy pass instead. MLF’s offense had problems with White too. Like “we made it to the red zone and came away with a field goal” kind of problems. This? This is a completely incompetent quarterback crushing his teams playoff hopes.
To me, the biggest mistake was after Knapp's accident... they didn't try to replace him, & just went with some lowly nothing, with no NFL QB mentoring experience. I was hoping that MLF would watch the 1st Buffalo game, & try to use a similar gameplan tonight. That gameplan was more tailored to Zach, with the quick hits, etc, & surprise, it was Zach's best game. Nope. Also, I wanted James Robinson activated... a) perfect weather for a bowling ball to run up the gut; b) I'm sure he'd have been psyched to try to punish his former team. Nope.
They started the season already banged the fuck up, and things just went from horrible to complete soup sandwich when AVT went out. I'm not going to bash Douglas, because he's done a good job building the team otherwise, but the O-line still needs serious upgrades, both in starters and backups.
I don’t remember any season where the QBs moved from starting to inactive or PS and back again on a weekly basis like this year. Don’t our coaches actually evaluate players during practice?
I have no great love for this CS but it's amazing how different this team looks when you get Zach out of there.. this is a 10 win team with competent QB play
I didn't entertain the thought before tonight, but Saleh at least needs to have the media ask him about job security during the press conference tonight.
You're right about Wilson but not Saleh and Douglas. Saleh and Douglas would rather lose with Wilson than admit their gigantic error on draft day 2021. Just watch, they will bench Zach the last 2 games of this season. Then they will talk him up over the offseason (and not just for trade value). They will start him the first half of 2023 at least, as Chris Simms continue to chirp how great Wilson "can be."
The problem is not that Zach needs a mentor--the problem is he stinks--he had 1 good college year against terrible competition. He looks like a 15 year old boy out there playing against grown men. The sooner Douglas admits his error and moves on the better,
Douglas has built a good roster and Saleh has been a good head coach (remove his QB decisions mandated by the organization) all year. Unfortunately they’ve decided to ride or die with the trash from Utah. But I think they deserve another year or two with a quarterback that isn’t absolute dogshit. Everything else in the organization is running well. Teams swing and miss on quarterbacks. It happens. If they don’t pivot quick enough they deserve to be fired. If they pivot, they retain their jobs. It’s simple. Wilson should be QB3 in camp next year and on the verge of being cut.
