I know no one here gives a shit.... but a kid from Long Island just won the Pipeline Masters. Pretty fucking awesome pretty fucking amazing!
" In February, Quiksilver sent him to Australia to train with the surf coach Mick Cain, who used video analysis and mental techniques to improve Stack's contest readiness." - Wikipedia If it can be done for surfing...?
That's awesome. They are usually Aussie, from Hawaii or California.. Great to see a NYer win this. That tournament of fun as fuck to watch in person.
I grew up in Long Beach too--guys were in wetsuits out there every morning--I'm talking around Lincoln Avenue. I guess guys like him still do it. And those waves are bigger than 3 feet holmes--man, some days that shit is scary. And the undertoe--watch out.
yes they were bigger sometimes.....pre and post noreasters and such. born there, lived there from 1971-97....east end, president streets.
I lived in a few places--Kirkwood by the canals, my grandmother was on Lincoln and Bway, other grandmother in the west end on Buffalo street. My aunt was in an apartment on Shore drive. My father after divorce was on Franklin. You probably remember the cozy nook? Behind that place was my first I'll show you mine etc. Remember the lido hotel back then--thank pink topped monstrosity? Last I heard they made condo's out of it. I left there and went out to California with my father in the late 70's. I visit whenever I get back east--crazy to see the boardwalk washed away--last time I was there was maybe 3 years ago. Oh--and Ginos pizza--that's a must whenever I'm there. Good to chat with a fellow long beach guy--
LLOLL.... yes sir....cozy nook, carini pizza, and the associated.... boys used to "store" six packs behind the associated and after hours they were nice and cold. pretty much spent my entire teenage years up and down that block. a few names i remember - rosetti, drake, sisco, ostendorf, orourke.
Kickass name for surfer. The google machine led me to a 15 minute documentary short about him and the NY surf scene. I do what I’m told. Plus, the dude won a championship, so it was definitely worth a watch. https://vimeo.com/stackedmovie/stacked
