Has to do with coaching staffs and their ability to evaluate QB talent. Minshew is not a starter because Jacksonville took Lawrence in the draft and traded Minshew to avoid any controversy as Lawrence developed. He sits because Philly committed to developing Hurts even though at the time, Minshew was the better QB, or don't you remember that?
The Jets are bad at evaluating QB talent. Also, let’s grab a QB 31 other teams passed on repeatedly to spice up the QB competition.
Read back through the thread. I said Minshew will never be the guy to carry a team on his shoulders, but he sure as hell can run this offense better that Zach Wilson. Then do some homework on salary cap management, and tell me how we bring in a $40M free agent without losing key players on the D. Re-sign White and sign Minshew. Along with Zach, that's three QBs on the roster next year with one inactive each week. Two of which I'm confident can run this offense effectively.
Seems like a lot of pointless busy work… are you in middle management? *I have no interest in changing the QB room laterally.
Middle? No. I understand fiscal interests, expenditures, and ROI. Explain who you want, and how you make it happen.
I want JD to continue being prudent; here’s how prudent looks to me based on my belief that the Jets end up going to the playoffs behind M. White. Developmental QB - Check (ZW) Dependable Vet - Check (MW) Do I think Jimmy G is worth a long term contract to upgrade MW and admit ZW is unsalvageable? No and No (esp after the playoff run). If we sell Jimmy on the biggest media market in the world and sticking it to Bob Kraft and get him on a team friendly 2 year deal would I be excited? Sure Barring the right opportunity presenting itself, I’d want and assume White and Wilson fight for the starting role and Streveler fights to make the team.
Lock up Mike White up now before he has a Foles type superbowl season and you gotta give him a Foles type contract. At the very least hes proven hes a very capable backup so pay him top backup money right now!!!
let's see what happens these next 2 weeks. big road games. I got the impression last year that the jets were "relieved" that white got hurt after 5 blistering quarters of play and his subsequent dud against the bills. Certainly bought them time with Wilson who gets 35 million guaranteed - only to show zero improvement albeit around a couple injuries. if MW survives and even thrives at times against the vikes and bills, it's white's team until further notice.
If Mike White takes this team deep into the playoffs, then it's his team. No need to look any further, but that's not the point of this thread so... When the Niners restructured Garappolo his guarantees went from about 26M to 6.5M. Now that they look like a playoff team with him at the helm, he'll probably command 30M+ in the open market. For me, that takes him off the table. Same with Rogers and Carr. I'd rather keep that money to ensure we can resign Q, Kwon, and Corey, among others. White has shown us that a competent QB wins with this roster. He just needs to execute. If it's not White, then Minshew is the guy. I'm not convinced that Zach will ever be the one, but he's on a cheap contract, so you keep him around (unless you can get picks for him, unlikely at this point).
If we close it now, the football gods will be angry and make White throw 3 picks against the Vikings. We should leave it open.
For the time being, lets put this thread to bed. Time to focus on who's taking snaps for us this year. Let next year take care of itself..
