What do you guys grade each starter for this year, and do you guys think we need an improvement.

QB: Chad Pennington- B, I think we should stick with Chad, unless Clemens proves he is worth it.
RB: Leon Washington/Cedric Houston/Kevin Barlow- C, We couldn't get a running game going consistantly this year. Washington might have a future here, but I'm not sure if it is a starting spot.
FB: James Hodgins/BJ Askew- C-, FB didn't play a big role in this offense, but I think we can do loads better at this position
WR: Cotchery/Coles/Smith/McCareins- A, this was the surprise unit this year, and we don't need any improvement here.
TE: Chris Baker- B-, I think he was underused this year, and is a good talent.
LT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson- B, He had a solid year, and we don't need to look for another LT for a decade.
LG: Pete Kendell- A-, Pete had a great year, and was so important to Brick And Mangold. He is getting up their in age, but we can find a replacement next year.
C: Nick Mangold- A-, He has been a great surpise this year, and can anchor the line for another decade.
RG: Brandon Moore- C, He has been average at best this year. He has been steady for a few years, but we can replace him.
RT: Anthony Clement- B-, He has been steady, but he is a FA agent this year and we could do better

RE: Kimo Von Oelhoffen- C, He is a team leader, but is old and wasn't effective as I thought he would. We definately need to upgrade this position.
NT: Dewayne Robertson- B-, He struggled early, but improved during the second half of the year. I'm willing to give him another year.
LE: Shaun Ellis- B+, He has been our best Lineman, and should improve if we get another good RE opposite of him.
OLB: Bryan Thomas- A, He has been a great player this year. One of the most improved players. Should be here for awhile.
MLB: Jon Vilma- B-, He struggled with the change to a 3-4, but might improve with another year, and he won't be going anywhere.
MLB: Eric Barton- B+, He has been our second most consistant LB, and we don't need another MLB.
OLB: Victor Hobson- B, He quietly had a very good season. We could do better here, but I wouldn't mind keeping Hobson as the starter.
CB: Andre Dyson- A, our only consistant CB. Had a good year, and will be back next year.
FS: Erik Coleman- B-, He was quiet this year, but didn't give up too many big plays. We might have to do better, but Eric Smith has been looking good.
SS: Kerry Rhodes- A+, He was our best defensive player this year, and will be for years to come.
CB: Hank Poteat, David Barrett, Justin Miller, Drew Coleman- C-, This has been a spot of mediocracy. Hank Poteat has played well, but I'm not sure if he is the future. Barrett was injured for a good part of this year, but might be cut. Miller has been a bust so far at CB, and Coleman isn't going to be anything more than a Nickelback.

K: Mike Nugent- A, Is greatly improved from last year. Unfortunately he needs to increase his kickoffs, otherwords, he would be great.
P: Ben Graham- B+, He was consistant all year, and only had a few mishaps with holding.

So overall I think we could improve at RB, FB, RG, RT, RE, OLB, CB, and possibly FS. Obviously some positions aren't as bad as others.

Nick Mangold deserves an A+...played probably the second hardest position in the NFL to play, and he did it as a rookie. Made the calls and always returned from an injury the next play.

finally a good thread admist all these terible ones (i left some of twinjets analysis that i agreed with)
    OFFENSE

QB: Chad Pennington- A-: I never expected Chad to come back like this after that injury, great season
RB: Leon Washington/Cedric Houston/Kevin Barlow- C: Definitly not a great job by our running backs this year although I wasn't expecting much
FB: James Hodgins/BJ Askew- C: Didn't really do much in the passing game and obviously didn't open up a ton of holes
WR: Cotchery/Coles/Smith/McCareins- A+: I will have to give this unit the top grade because they were truly excellent
TE: Chris Baker- B: Good season but I agree that he was underused
LT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson- B, He had a solid year, and we don't need to look for another LT for a decade.
LG: Pete Kendell- A-, Pete had a great year, and was so important to Brick And Mangold. He is getting up their in age, but we can find a replacement next year.
C: Nick Mangold- A: Definitly a great season from Mangold; turned into a top center in the league
RG: Brandon Moore- C, He has been average at best this year. He has been steady for a few years, but we can replace him.
RT: Anthony Clement- B-, He has been steady, but he is a FA agent this year and we could do better

If you disagree, you make your own ratings.

That is what the thread is about.

I think Blaylock, Barlow, and Houston are all going to be gone. Washington was the only bright spot at runningback this year. Sure Houston has a couple of good games. Bring in Turner and Washington.

RE: Kimo Von Oelhoffen- C: I didn't expect much from him but he never made much of an impact; you hardly knew he was on the field

NT: Dewayne Robertson- B: Definitly got better as the season went on and had some monster games

LE: Shaun Ellis- B: Definitly not the sack master that he formerly was but that has to do with scheme

OLB: Bryan Thomas- A: Earned himself a contract extension and was a good rusher from the OLB

MLB: Jon Vilma- B-: Led the team in tackles but never developed into a superstar 3-4 like he was in the 4-3

MLB: Eric Barton- B+: Seemed to have a good season stopping the run when our D started to step up in the second half

OLB: Victor Hobson- B+: Definitly didn't expect him to have this good of a season; made some big plays

CB: Andre Dyson- A-: Played pretty well out there against the #1's of other teams

FS: Erik Coleman- B-: Not a standout year but he definitly improved a little after last year

SS: Kerry Rhodes- A+: Amazing season from a player we didn't expect it from; top safety

CB: Hank Poteat, David Barrett, Justin Miller, Drew Coleman- C-: A little dissapointing that one of these three couldn't step up and become our permentent #2 corner

K: Mike Nugent- A-: Great season except for kickoffs

P: Ben Graham- B: Seems to have trouble downing the bal inside the 10 but wow he can kick the ball far

Nice thread. I think you underappreciate the O Line. Clements and Moore were invisible all year. Thats a good sign.

I think RB and LB are the two biggest needs by far.

    Here are my grades:

QB: Chad Pennington- B, Played great at times and at times bleh. He is a major reason we went to the playoffs.
RB: Leon Washington/Cedric Houston/Kevin Barlow- C-, Adequate group at best
FB: James Hodgins/BJ Askew- D-, Big area of need
WR: Cotchery/Coles/Smith/McCareins- A, Most talented group on the team.
TE: Chris Baker- C Invisible at times.
LT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson- B-, Hit the rookie wall. Will be much much better in the future.
LG: Pete Kendell- B, Veteran glue of the line.
C: Nick Mangold- A-, Had an awesome season. Future all pro.
RG: Brandon Moore- C-, Huge area for upgrade.
RT: Anthony Clement- C-, See RG.

RE: Kimo Von Oelhoffen- F, He sucks
NT: Dewayne Robertson- B-, Got so much better as the season progressed, tempted to give him a higher grade.........nah
LE: Shaun Ellis- C, See TE!
OLB: Bryan Thomas- B, Vast improvement in his play. Actually a top 5 player on this D this year.
MLB: Jon Vilma- B-, Another where the F*ck are you player this year.
MLB: Eric Barton- C, Sometimes he is real good other times he is just plain stupid.
OLB: Victor Hobson- C, He has shown vast improvement this year, like night and day. Wow is he slow though.
CB: Andre Dyson- B+, AS close to a shut down corner as we have. Played very very well this year.
FS: Erik Coleman- D, I thought he was improving but today I just soured on him.
SS: Kerry Rhodes- A+, All-pro the leader and playmaker on this D.
CB: Hank Poteat- C+, Played adequate across from Dyson
CB David Barrett D-, injured or just not good enough most of year
CB/KR Justin Miller C-/A, I saw improvement this year. He can make the big hit and has all the talent in the world but he is like Barton in that he has a brain fart every game or two.
CB Drew Coleman- Inc, Where did he go after that missed tackle?

K: Mike Nugent- B Inability to get touch backs is reason for B
P: Ben Graham- B Good but not great.

Special Teams B+, Really an area of strength on this team.

Area's of improvement are basically the whole team..................... Trust me that is not a knock, just being objective. This is for the most part a young and improving team and the low grades reflect the growing pains of young players in a new system.

Area's where we need an immediate upgrade:

RG, LG and RT- We need some road graders or mean athletic types. I want guys that the other team says, "F*ck why do I have to be lined up against this maniac?". Not a knock on Kendall either but a mean angry type should be next to Brick. I would be in favor of getting a mean road grader G and moving him to the Left side. This would vastly improve the run game by default.

D-Line- I know I am beating a dead horse (sorry Kimo) but we really need to upgrade here. I have no easy answer. However for a 3-4 to succeed we need a line to be structured like NE's and we are nowhere close presently.

RB- We need a horse, no ands, ifs or buts. I do think if the O-line is fixed or constructed better our run game improves vastly by default. That being said we need a horse.

FB- Why the hell did we release Sowell? Could be the least talented part of the team.

CB- It is imperative that we get someone to play opposite Dyson. If we get a better pass rush maybe the answer is on the team (Miller).

S- We need a Harrison type here. Can E. Smith be that player? Possibly. I know one thing, E. Coleman is not.

LB- Other than Vilma is anyone struck by the fact that this is a pedestrian bunch (speed). Personally I think we need some speed or another play maker here....... or both.

Really I am so excited by this team. I still say I have never seen a Jets team improve weekly like this team has. That being said there are a few flaws that need to be addressed. Thankfully, I have full faith in this FO and CS that these improvements can and will be made....................... and man has that been a long time coming!

Not so much Moore. He made quite a few mistakes. Although that holding call he had today was absolute bull shit.

    No he doesn't.

He played well, and I'm glad we have him, but him and the guards need to open more lanes to run in the middle. An A+ is reserved for a guy who can pass block well (he can) and open holes in the running game (either him, or the guards can't)

Personally, I think the two hole I want to fix the most is DE and CB. I would love to sign Samuel, and would like to draft a good DE early. If a good OLB is available through FA or the draft, I wouldn't mind picking him up.

Why are you so fucking nasty to everyone who makes a comment on Chad. I think you need some anger management classes.

I don't particularly understand this post. I never said I wanted to start Clemens over Penny, in fact, I would be against it. I said I would only start Clemens, if he is clearly the better player. Also the WR, were a huge surprise, and were great all year. I think it is possible for the WRs to have a better year than the QB. And I'm not taking anything away from Chad. He had a great season, and I am damn proud of him.
