Those who have read my posts before already know that I think that Mangini is a great coach and I am a Chad guy.

    My two comments:

    1. I would have gone for it at 17-10 from the two. At that point, I just thought that would be our best chance to tie the game up. (Ultimately, who knows what would have happened -- but there I would have tried for the tie). I just felt 17-13 there would still mean we needed a td and i wasnt confident that wed ever get that close again.

    2. The CS was great at adjusting all year. At some point, I would have called off the blitzing which just wasnt working. (I know that giving Brady time is death also). maybe im wrong on this one.

Extremely happy with the year and the effort today.

But if we called off the blitz, I think Brady would have just picked apart with even more ease.

the blitzes were ridiculous....great post. You cant blitz every down. I also wanted to go for the score down 17-10...it seemed mangini deep down wanted to also but he couldnt bring himself to pull the trigger

I think Brady would have picked us apart even if we didn't blitz. When we didn't blitz Brady had all the time in the world and his WR's just ran around and found open seams. I was back and forth with that 4th down call and it could have gone either way. Ultimately, I agreed with the decision just because I expected the Pats to march down the field and get at least a FG and I knew we would still be in the game.

When we did blitz, we got no pressure with less Db's in coverage. How would it have been easier with more coverage???

Because when you give a QB like Brady a lot of time he will always find an open receiver. Also, as a receiver, its not hard to get open when you are running around in a secondary for a long time. It's hard for a defensive back to stay with a WR when that happens

guys please, if an offense consistently picks up your blitz, you now have the worst possible defense you can have

But he had all the time in the world anyway? Our blitzes didn't come close all day. Especially on 3rd down. How many times on 3 rd and long (less than 10) did we come with a big, slow developing, stunting blitz that took too long to do anything. Meanwhile Brady found a receiver running just past the 1 st down marker before our guys could get near him. Better to rush 4 and hope some lineman blows his block before our coverage breaks down. My biggest problem was how we didn't change things up when this obviously wasn't working.

I guess but it doesn't really matter because it really didn't matter what we did today. Every time we blitzed they found the open receiver and every time we sat back they found the open receiver.

That is my biggest problem. We either came with massive blitzes or we rushed 3 (with no hope of getting to Brady). When both of these were not working, we didn't even try to just rush 4.

I had no problem with the play-calling at all in this game. I felt like Mangini prepared very well. In the end, the players came up short too many times. Vilma and Rhodes can't just be good - they have to be great. The O-line didn't hold up. The talent just isn't there yet. One more offseason like the last one and the Jets will be true Superbowl contenders.

    I agree.
I just would have liked him to be agressive and get the 7 in that situation. Against the PATS, on the road, you may not get another chance (and we didnt)

The Jets are not ready for prime time. As a Patriot fan the only analogy I can come up with is the Jets are pesty. They are like the dog at your in-laws house who humps your leg. You like the little pooche somewhat?but he's a pain in the a@@ and you really just want to shake him. I am actually surprised the Jets kept it close early on. Congrats on a good season.

The way to stop those intermediate out routes is to settle in a zone and get in throwing lanes. However you give Brady enough time and he'll have the awareness to hit his backs and receivers. ESPN showed a stat that Brady had the worst QB rating when throwing while getting hit or before he releases the pass, which was obviously what the defense was trying to exploit. Our muddled huddle was out done by the Patriots quick snap and their larger offensive line manhandled our front 7.

This goes hand in hand with the one problem I had with today's game....

Not ONCE did we throw the ball into the endzone. Outside of Samuel their secondary is very average (without Harrison) and to not take a shot into the endzone in my opinion is a mistake...we were playing with house $ today we should have taken a shot.
