After 4 straight wins, we were going to lose one and we did. No Hall, no AVT and No Davis. 3 starters down on offense and it showed. Believe or not, there were many positives versus some severe negatives. Defense is coming along nicely. They are growing in front of our eyes. Can't imagine how good this defense will be in coming years. Tons of young talent and future is bright. Garret Wilson IS THE MAN. What a talent. Add Hall to it and we have a class A Wide Receiver and class A Running Back. Conklin balled today. Loved seeing it. Even after Zach's 3 INT's we only lost by 5. Years past, this game would have been a blowout. Look folks, we have seen worse. Yes it sucks to lose to Pats at home. Yes I am mad like many of you. I will go to bed mad and tomorrow not sure how I will perform at work. But it is what it is. We are 5-3, season still alive. Let's power thru.
Offensively it could get ugly, but defensively we match up against the Bills. It's really all about our secondary giving us a chance every game
Truth is you can’t trust Wilson in a playoff game situation. The better teams will take away the run and Wilson will beat the Jets.
Can't trust Wilson in a playoff game situation? I don't think they can trust him in a preseason game situation. He's a bust. If they're actually serious about making a run this year, he's got to go to the bench. Keeping him out there with this level of play is telling the rest of the locker room that his development is more important than wins.
The Jets just made Belichick the 2nd winningest HC in history in our house. That's how we can remember Zach's first 300 yard game. Fuck silver linings.
It's obvious why we lost today. It's equally obvious that the fastest way to turn the Jets back into a sad sack team is to keep doing the things we did today and expect that things will turn out differently. It's not that ZW doesn't have talents. It's that those talents do not equal wins in the NFL when you match them up against his deficits. And JFM really needs to get paddled by his teammates for taking another RTP that is a late hit. It's not that hard to check your momentum to the QB once you see the release. JFM takes this kind of penalty on 3rd down way too often.
This team still has playoff aspirations. They have to take a game from the Bills or Pats though and even that might not be enough. The defense is fantastic. They can be elite next year, maybe even by the end of this season. Wilson is a terrible quarterback though. That has to be addressed. He can’t make all the throws, he doesn’t see the field well, and he makes lots of terrible decisions that he hasn’t really payed for until this week. That’s a lot to fix on a team that’s just opened a window.
4 game winning streak was nice. But, Jets will most likely be 5-4 going into to bye week. Zero chance we beat the Bills even if we play a lot better than we did today. Big step up from a year ago but we really should have had that game today. Hopefully we get some revenge in 3 weeks.
It's awful losing this game after all the hype and how golden of an opportunity to turn the corner. But I believe this is a good team. Not perfect (especially OL right now). But a legimitely good team. If JFM doesn't have that disgusting penalty they probably win regardless of ZW's terrible play. And with even mediocre QB play, this team is 6-2 and a top 5 team in the AFC. The problem is ZW
Positive is the defense played really really well. They were dominant and deserved better. The DL was pushing the Pats OL around all game long. We were one roughing the passer call from winning this game in a rout. Zach made some horrible plays. All three INTs were a different degree of awful. He rebounded and made some nice throws. But there is no consistency in his play. Losing AVT and Hall completely changes the identity of this team. I give MLF credit for trying to reinvent the offense and calling a great game today. But, we simply cannot win with our QB playing up and down like this. While the roughing the passer penalty was the turning point and biggest play of the game our defense kept giving our offense opportunities to win this game which we refused to take. But, in the long run these are the type of games and lessons that Wilson needs to experience and learn. While playing it safe is nice it is also nice to force him to have to make plays and make mistakes. We are only in the beginning of year 2 he has 2.5 years left to develop. Certainly today, was not a good game by Zach and that makes a bad trend of 3 in a row but if your developing a QB that is something we will need to deal with. That being said I would argue that being pessimistic after the last 3 games is certainly reasonable. My hope for Zach is that the bye week will give him a chance to take stock and reboot. But, a QB that has issues mentally with lack of confidence and lack of consistency because he simply cannot learn to relax and just play makes me question if these issues will ever improve. Playing QB is about dealing with pressure and if your unable to deal with pressure after 1.5 years it is reasonable to ask if this will always be the case. I need Cval to talk me off the ledge. I will say very few people dreamed we would be 5-4 at the break. Regardless of this game, Buffalo, losing 12 OTs , AVT and Hall it has been a wonderful amazing season.
Without some decent consistent QB play, it is very difficult to win in this league. Zach is still looking like a QB who is not ready for prime time due to a questionable football IQ. Also, Jets were significantly outcoached today; especially in the 2nd Half.
We're 5-4 counting next week's loss to Buffalo. MLF calling a pass heavy game means we'll get our asses handed to us again in a shootout we have no chance of winning.
We all would have signed up for 5-4 at the bye in a heartbeat. However, it's hard to stomach losing 3 in a row to New England (2x) and Buffalo. Need to win one of the next 2 games, and Buffalo is extremely unlikely. This was the game we needed to really make us a heavy favorite to make the playoffs. Now, we will probably need to steal the game in Foxboro.
I disagree that the defense played really really well. Yes, we got some sacks, but they had 127 yards rushing and Jones passed for 194 yards. Time after time, the Jets allowed the Pats to just march down the field. They had drives of 16 plays, 14 plays and 8 plays. Defenses that play really really well don' allow long drives like that. I knew this was going to happen. They (MLF and Saleh) obviously have screwed up Zach's confidence and ability to play. He is thinking too much, can't relax, and as a result is playing tight, causing inaccuracy, to be hesitant, and to make mistakes. They either need to take the reins off, or fire MLF now before Zach is totally ruined. If they keep this shit up the rest of the season. Zach will be toast. If they bench him, he'll be toast. It's total stupidity to try to totally change the way he has always played, especially when he has a bit of a learning disability, and expect him to play well. If they were going to do that, they should have let Zach sit for a couple of years and traded for a vet to start in the interim. It's looking more and more to me that the one big mistake that JD has made was in hiring Saleh rather than Brian Daboll or someone else that would have brought in an offense that fit what Zach does well and is built around his style of play.
Sadly for me it's not OK - this season was all about seeing some progression from Wilson, to see if he can be our franchise QB - I never wanted us to draft him and I haven't seen anything since to make me think it was the right call - he is Sanchez MK 2 or Darnold Mk2 or any one of the other disappointing QNs we have had - this team will never achieve anything until it has a true franchise QB and it will never have a true franchise QB as it seems to be cursed always to pick the wrong QB prospect (though to be fair all the 2021 class of QBs look to be varying degrees of bad).
The jets run the perfect offense for Zach's skills and very similar to the offense he ran in college. They drafted him because he was a pocket passer who could make pro throws efficiently from the pocket in the college and because he played in a very similar system. That is his strength playing efficiently from the pocket within structure. That was the main reason he was drafted number 2 that and he was the most pr-ready plaug and play QB of the QB prospects. As he was the only one who demonstrated the ability to make pro-throws during college and teams did not have project his ability to make Sunday throws like the other prospects. The off structure is just a bonus and something that might eventually bring him to an elite level. But, making plays from the pocket within structure is what will make or break Zach. When he played well the last 7 games last year that is where Zach did well playing efficiently within the structure of the offense. At some point maybe things will click for Zach and he will start relaxing and most of his problems will go away. He can make the throws with good mechanics until he starts pressing then everything falls apart.
I totally disagree. Zach is NOT a pocket passer. IMO you couldn't be more wrong in your analysis. If you were right, Zach wouldn't be struggling this. It's obvious that the way they're having him play has him thinking too much, is uptight, and perhaps has lost confidence. IMO he will continue to struggle in this shit offensive scheme until his confidence is shot and he will wind up being a bust, because of MLF and Saleh. JD screwed up. He definitely should have hired Daboll, or someone who would have brought in an offensive scheme that fits the way Zach played or the OC would have been flexible and built the offense around what Zach did well like Baltimore, KC and Buffalo did.
