I'm not at all surprised seeing as how I pegged Zach as the best QB in that class. I am surprised about Mills being #2, although I really didn't watch much of him in college and the run up to the draft. And given Mac Jones's situation playing for BB is surprising. But frankly I don't much care about anyone besides Wilson. If the others do well or poorly, I don't care. If Wilson stays healthy he has a chance to be the best QB we've had since Joe Namath IMO.
Shows what being in the same system for year 2 can do. I really believe that yesterday showed real growth in taking what the game gave and not pushing for hero ball. He was 2 breece hall yards away from 2 TDs too. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Zach needs to keep this up. Still small sample size, only 2 games for him, not 5, but this is definitely more in line with the eye test than his actual stats. If he can build on this and stay healthy, Jets fans will be very happy.
definitely glad JD agreed with us team wilson fans over the team fields fans. fields looks awful. on a sidenote baker is gonna be benched for darnold lol. he's the lowest graded QB in the NFL
I don't really care how he rates against the QB's in his draft class. He needs to rate well against the other starting QB's in the league. Needs to have a 90+ passer rating and a 2:1 TD/INT ratio at the end of the year.
And considering I wanted Baker Mayfield over anybody in that draft and wanted Fields over Zach should tell you all about my football knowledge. Lol Stop being a darksider. Have some sunshine in your heart.
In that instance I give props to JD to getting Zach weapons. The Bears really have just Monty and maybe Mooney/Kmet….The Jets have Hall, Wilson, Moore, Carter, Davis and a way creative OC then the Bears. Fields development will take a big hit with a lack of weapons and a so far uninspired OC
Yes, people way underestimate how important the right situation is - right CS, offensive philosophy conducive to their strengths, and of course the players around him, OL and weapons - to a young QB. It makes almost all the difference in the world. It's no coincidence that there are "QB factories" in college, or certain teams in the NFL that always seem to get "lucky" by finding good QBs, while others - like the Jets - go QB starved for years. Good - let alone great - QBs aren't born they're nurtured. Look no further than Josh Allen to see this truth. I do think the Jets have finally realized this and are trying their best to nurture Zach, but LaFleur is new at this too. I reiterate what I said the other day: they should throw bags of money at Kurt Warner to come in and work with both Wilson and LaFleur as a consultant and expedite the whole process.
Side note....Zach has thrown interceptions in only 1 of his last 7 games....just a stat on the best QB in the 2021 draft
Zach was 2 yards short of having 2 TD passes vs. Fins. If we keep producing rushing TD's like last week, 5, Zach will never have a good TD stat line. Get the W & forget the stats
I think this is also one of things that people aren't recognizing about Zach: for all his great talent and self-confidence, he puts the team first. He believes in himself enough to not have to worry about racking up stats, and knows the only stat that counts is "W"s.
A 90 passer rating and a 2:1 TD/INT ratio is an average QB in this league. It's not like I was asking for 30+ TD's. If he ends up with 5 int's in the year he would only need to throw 10 TD's which is anemic by today's standards. Don't set the bar too low for him and don't make preemptive excuses, lol. A 90 passer rating is not extraordinary. It's average.
I'm not sure how your comment applies to mine. I'm not making any excuses, nor setting the bar low IMO. My point was that Zach is making the transition from college where "stats are king" because they determine so much of your future, to the NFL where wins and losses are the major determining factors in how you're judged. For players who have been told their whole life that they're special and to set themselves above everyone else, this isn't really as easy at might seem. I'm just highlighting that Wilson's ability to do this should be appreciated.
This might be a stat issue he has all year. Last year he had 6 passes where the receiver got tackled at the one. As a team right now we are run 1st team at the goal line. A lot of QBs rack up TDs and pad their stats with TDs at the goal line. Our offensive philosophy seems right now centered on using our RBs to smash in those TDs. That will distort Zach's TD ratio as it will be harder to get easier TDs. Maybe at some point things will change and those tendencies will allow Zach to use PA for easy TDs.
What I'm saying is a 90 passer rating isnt racking up stats. It's being an average NFL QB. In order to achieve it he just needs to limit his interceptions and have a completion percentage in the low 60's. He doesn't need a ton of yards or TD's.
