Our guys are a bit brittle at the QB spot.. just sayin shit happens to this team at the worst time and usually where its gonna hurt the most.
It's the #3 QB spot... but I agree. Streveler just looks better while playing the game... and more determined. To be honest I'd like to see him get time with the one's.
I agree it would be the best way to judge him... Those years in Canada may have been just what Streveler needed to be successful down here. Kurt Warner learned how to play QB in the Arena League and it translated successfully to the NFL. Warren Moon did the same in the CFL. Both went on to successful NFL careers. Not saying Streveler is either of those guys, but he shouldn't be discounted because he played in the CFL. Maybe the lightbulb came on like we all wish it would with ZW.
The team starting games flat is concerning because that was a hallmark of last season, and a big reason we were so bad overall. It felt like we were down 2-3 TDs by the 2nd quarter WAY too often. We've also been committing a lot of penalties, another thing that was a big problem last year. Both of these issues are coaching problems. The more I hear of Saleh's platitudes and life-coach motivational speeches the less convinced I am he's the guy. I think Saleh is a good man who is good with the media, I can see why JD was so impressed with his interview. I just have seen very little evidence that he's good at most of the other things coaches need to be good at. He looks and sounds the part but that's surface-level, less important stuff.
That stuff does concern me a bit. I'm hopeful he's more than looking the part and these phrases. I'll be more concerned if the Jets start trying to sell apparel with those. When he talks football in interviews and press conferences, he does seem to be very knowledgeable and speaks with depth that does not seem superficial to me. He also seems to be very plugged in with what's going on with every player on the team, which is a huge switch from their recent coaches
Bryce Hall had a rough game. I still think he’s good just maybe the pressure from Sauce May have gotten a bit to him. Clemons on one play just pushed the DT back 10-15 yards lol, quite a feat of strength. JJ has the moves to get around the tackle but he’s been working a lot on power..that part of his game continues to need development. Mims looks tons better off the snap. Last year it was as if he was a second late to start the play. Now he’s coming out with burst. No clue why the Jets don’t throw jump balls to him. That’s one of his better traits as a WR. He’s also been better as a route runner. Wilson Davis, Moore, Wilson, Berrios, Mims, Smith likely is the rotation although I’m kinda tired of Smith dropping passes. Guys like Black/Charles are guys you have just in case. I’m not really concerned if they are on the PS and happen to get exposed to other teams. But good to have around. Must carry Cager. Figure it out and carry 4 TE’s. Sherwood made some nice plays. I really didn’t see any of the other LB’s really flash. Anae made a lot of good plays too but he’s at a loaded spot.
QB- Wilson, Flacco, Streveler (or PS him) RB- Hall, Carter, Perine WR- Davis, Moore, Wilson, Berrios, Mims, Smith TE- Conklin, Uzomah, Ruckert, Cager OL- Brown, Tomlinson, McGovern, AVT, Fant, Feeney, Mitchell, udoga DL- JFM, Quinnen, Lawson, Huff, Martin, JJ, Clemons, Rankins, Thomas LB- Mosely, Quincy, Kwon, Sherwood, Nasirildeen CB- Reed, Sauce, Hall, Carter III, Echols, Hardee S- Joyner, Whitehead, Parks, Pinnock K- Greg the Leg P- Mann LS- Henny this is 50 ^ minus Shreveler, so there’s two others you can add to the roster ^ you can carry another RB, DE/LB, CB potentially.
Why not? Best way to see what this guy has is to put him in with the ones. Couldn't be worse than White.
JJ was a 22 year old senior his last season in college. He turned 23 January 8th so he was an older 22 year old that season. When you take that season out of the sample he really didn't look like anything special at the college level. He was a 5 year project from community college to that last season at Florida State. By the end of the run he was a man playing against younger opponents.
Great post. I liked it when Saleh was hired. But, he hasn't shown me much other than being a cheerleader. Not saying fire him, just that he has to get better. Why the hell are the jets always starting so SLOW...in individual games and in the standings? I was never a big Herm Edwards fan, but I did read way back when that he always was good at reminding his players before every game that they must "match the intensity" of the other team right from the start.
Great post! Agree with all, except would add Herbig to OL and maybe keep Guidry over Hardee but that's close.
Saleh has got to start putting wins up... that's the only measure of a coach at the pro level. I'm less concerned about how he relates to his players... and more critical on how he holds his staff to account.
White shouldn't be gifted the number 2 spot. Zach is the 1 and Flacco is the 2. And I know White can't live forever off one career day, but what has Streveler ever done except have two "career halves" against guys who won't even be on an NFL roster? That said, give Streveler the start against the Giants, and if he kills it, take him over White. Otherwise go with White.
While I violently wish for Saleh to succeed... and want him to be my favorite Jets coach ever deep down inside I have to admit I am starting to agree with this opinion.
You remind me of the Chargers coach after the first game Herbert played coming in for an injured Tyrod. He flashed great taking KC to overtime. They asked Anthony Lynn after the game who's gonna start and he said Tyrod is the QB. They asked how he could say that given Herbert's performance and he said incredulously "Did we win--Did we win?".
