I had asked “In what way is it worth the risk to play any starter in a meaningless preseason game” Your response was fine though. You just mentioned how soccer friendlies aren’t looked down upon as much as preseason football is. If the injury risk in a meaningless soccer match was the same as a preseason game, I believe they’d be looked down upon as well.
I get it. I used to enjoy watching preseason but now I just sit there worrying about injuries for however long the starters are in for. I’d rather just not play anyone and watch the backups/bottom of the roster compete; that’s much more enjoyable for me.
We do get injuries as well you know, a guy ruptured his achilles for Leicester City, pretty much his season done before it got started. The meaningless soccer match is the equal to your preseason 4 games, there is no difference, apart from the main players actually get to play in soccer preseason games, unlike the NFL where they get a series in one or two games, maybe play the third one a bit more seriously and then nobody of note plays the 4th. Like I said they are used to build up match fitness, no amount of training camp can replicate game time, always a lot of injuries early in the NFL., is this due to the fact they have not felt the full force of a game before it starts for real? Are the players nowadays just far too big is another question tbh
Not saying soccer players don't get hurt; I'm saying the injury risk is less. As for your last question, I do wonder if lower body fat percentages in professional athletes are leading to more soft tissue or ligament injuries. I also think the turf fields are atrocious for professional sports.
In no way am I advocating betting on a preseason game, however, the Jets are 2 point dogs Monday night?
Ten bucks at Caesar's will get you $36.45 on the parlay with the over. Looks like Draft Kings is not doing parlays. Remember, the Jets can bust your wallet as easy as your heart.
Man, you already itching huh? Baseball that bad? Save the bankroll! 19 more days until TNF, god knows we are both going to need every penny to get through this year
GF15J, I will be there as usual my friend. Will you have your typical tailgate set up? I will be at lot D with my crew but can come over for an hour or so to say hi.
His fan club will only grow larger as the season unfurls... that's my prediction. I hope Lafleur is smart enough to feed him early & often.
I doubt the starters will see much action, if anything at all. I forecast may be a series on each side of the ball for some, two at the most. Pre season is far from useless, may be from a myoptic fan viewpoint, but for the players in the 40 to 52 range, versus a pool of 85 is a one and only golden opportunity to make the team. They are trying to fulfil their life long dream by desperately attempting the impossible, to make the team. That is huge. Is the only chance to display all they got on a real game with a brief shot at as bright future.Hell, to them and those making the roster selection, pre season is the greatest forum of all. I find it interesting to watch our improved bottom of the roster fight for survival and may be find a diamond in the rough or two that can raise up and be a winner. I alway look forward to finding the next Wayne Chrebet.
I don't have much excitement about this game. My main hope is no one gets hurt. It may be better for everyone, but NFL ticket sales, if the NFL eliminated the pre-season and just had joint practices.
The $$$ the NFL would loose out if preseason was eliminated would be the biggest hurtle here. They could add more regular season games, but the players union already upset at the thought im sure. Players can also get hurt in joint practices, ie Carl Lawson last year.
Not playing starters is a bad call IMO. At least some of them. Lawson hasn’t played a meaningful snap in 18 months,
Keep in mind our guys are a bit on the brittle side and Saleh just doesn't want to gamble the regular season on a preseason game.
