Pretty sure they said they haven't determined position yet, probably because we didn't need a LT, we needed a RT.

My point was we could have offered Moses six million and outbid the Ravens, which could have avoided this all together. However, its always a good idea to have a lot of OL depth. In our current situation it just got a little expensive. IMO we still need more quality backups at tackle and guard.

I mean. Look at the contract and apply real world knowledge. You aren't paying someone that kind of money regardless of structure to come in and play right tackle for the first time in their career at age 37 a year after being a pro-bowl left tackle.

Moses wanted to start and the Jets granted him his wish b/c the Jets don't want a disgruntled player forced to stay on the team and be a backup.

It's possible all the Mitchell talk lately has been lip service. If they make a move for another OT soon, we'll know that for a fact.

Yeah, I would be very surprised after hearing the contract if Brown plays RT this year.

Not impossible but highly unlikely now, IMO.

I don't think 2nd year is fully guaranteed. I think JD planned one year, but with the price for Duane going up following Becton injury, made it a two year deal with larger signing bonus to basically push some of the salary into the second year to fit under the CAP and leave some more room for other players/waiver pick-ups this year.

Yes, I agree about him playing LT, but not because of the contract. The contract I don't think is as big as it looks. If I had to bet, it is probably 11 mil guaranteed, and maybe 10 mil bonus, something like that. Effectively he will only count 5-6 mil this year under the CAP, but get paid 10-11 mil this year or so. Next year if we like him, we can restructure. This is not official, just a guess. We will know later.

He will play LT though because he was a Pro Bowl LT last year and played all career there. It's like Tomlinson. Fant played RT before, much easier for him to switch. Yes, he did better at LT, but I think this more has to do with him becoming an overall better player (he started career late) than switch of positions.

Just learned Brown is still under review by the league for a weapons charge.

"The only issue with the signing of Brown is that there's still a chance he could be punished by the NFL over an arrest last month. Back in July, Brown was charged with misdemeanor carrying of a concealed weapon after being arrested at Los Angeles International Airport."

I wonder if the contract deals with a potential suspension?

"When luxury became a necessity, the Jets wasted little time taking action.

Duane Brown is headed to New York three days after offensive tackle Mekhi Becton suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury (patella fracture), sources confirmed to SNY.

It’s a two-year deal for Brown worth $22 million, according to ESPN. The exact specifics of the contract aren’t yet known.

The top priority for the Jets this season is continuing Zach Wilson’s development. The best way to do that for a quarterback, general manager Joe Douglas infamously said in 2019, is by surrounding him with “protection and playmakers.” The Jets began this offseason in pretty good shape in both departments.

That took a turn for the worse after Becton’s collision with John Franklin-Myers.

While the Jets’ starting offensive line had no shortage of potential, its depth, specifically at the tackle position, was troublesome. The Jets had just Conor McDermott (out two weeks with an ankle injury), Chuma Edoga and rookie Max Mitchell behind George Fant and Becton.

The Jets genuinely believe Mitchell has a chance to develop into a mainstay on their offensive line, but while he’s further along than the team expected him to be at this point, the small-school, fourth-round pick has quite a ways to go before he can be counted on every Sunday. McDermott and Edoga are borderline depth pieces.

With Becton out, Mitchell and Edoga rotated at right tackle Tuesday and Wednesday. The defense sacked Wilson on six of his first seven drop backs on Tuesday. Wednesday’s practice was a pad-less, scripted workout.

The Jets wined and dined Brown, who will turn 37 later this month, during their Green and White scrimmage last Saturday. The five-time Pro Bowler who has experience in offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur’s zone-blocking scheme, stood on the sideline talking with Douglas, assistant general manager Rex Hogan and owner Woody Johnson.

At that point, though, Brown was just an insurance policy. Becton’s injury changed that, which is when conversations between New York and Brown’s representation accelerated.

The Jets and Brown, who had a 71.5 ProFootballFocus grade for the Seahawks in 2021, were able to come to an agreement Thursday afternoon. Head coach Robert Saleh and Douglas deserve credit for getting it done. The Jets weren’t the only team pursuing Brown, whose age puts him in a ring-chasing demographic. He picked the Jets over several teams much closer to contention. That says a lot about the culture Saleh and Douglas have worked to establish in New York.

With Brown en route to Florham Park, the question now becomes where he’ll line up once he gets there. This will be his 15th season in the NFL. He started 203 games in the previous 14 — all at left tackle. Becton played right tackle at the time of his injury. At left, the Jets had Fant, who Saleh said at the Senior Bowl “earned the right” to play there after a strong 2021 season.

Does Brown’s arrival now push Fant to the other side? That’s possible, although the Jets haven’t made a decision, sources told SNY. They’ll discuss that once the Brown signing is official.

Odds are, Fant will move to right and Brown will play left. That will give the Jets an offensive line combination of Brown, Laken Tomlinson, Connor McGovern, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Fant.

While Fant has been forward about his desire to play on the left (he changed his Instagram bio to inform all he is a left, not a right, tackle), there’s quite a bit of respect between Brown and Fant.

The two played together in Seattle for three years. Fant isn’t going to want to give up the left tackle spot, but if he’s going to for anyone, he’s likely to be OK with it if it’s Brown.

This summer had been a good one for the Jets. Wilson’s continued improvement put New York on an upward trajectory not experienced in quite awhile. Becton’s injury, and the wholesale impact it had on the offensive line, threatened to jeopardize all of that.

That was until the Jets signed Brown.

    Crisis averted."

Connor Hughes is a dope. The Jets didn't have a "good" offensive line last year.

I would rather see what we have in Mitchell TBH. Brown is 37 and his play declined last year as he allowed 8 sacks. Hope it works out and he plays well but I am not so sure.
