Westhoff pretty much confirmed my suspicions about Herm. Guy was a cheerleader and had very little to do with football operations. Pfft.
What bothered me about Herm was his foolish loyalty to vets like Vinny, and Vinny was shitting up the place, and refused to play Pennington until he had to. I have a problem with coaches that do that. Parcells was GREAT because if you sucked, you didn't play, for the most part. I hope Saleh isn't like this with players, and ESPECIALLY, his coaches, not to mention any names..ULBRICH!!
I have more favorable memoires of Herm. Always an interesting character and as another poster mentioned earlier he skipped a step. He was a special teams guy I believe with Tampa Bay and was never a coordinator. Not a great X & O's guy but a spirited leader none the less. Jets shut out the Colts in the playoffs 41-0 is not a bad at all. Only time Manning was ever shut out in playoff action and the Colts had a very talented team. Also a good road win vs the Chargers as well. Herm's time with the Jets had some decent results overall, more favorable then unfavorable for sure.

I thought the hiring was great initially. But Herm was a fraud. He talked a good game "You Play To Win The Game". Of course but he was slow in making adjustments and got tired of looking at him looking with the same posture, the same frown on his face, and arms crossed. I was glad he left saved him the embarrassment of being fired.
Overall I have a favorable impression of Herm. I do remember that he was a poor game clock management coach, and that always drove me crazy.
Deleted a bunch of off topic posts, that led to a poster making a report. One person (making a comment about their prowess) spoils it for all in this thread. I know it's off season, and we as JET FANS need a sense of humor, one stupid "out of line" post brings it to a halt. I hated to delete all the posts related to it, since some were funny and clever, but we need to move on. Please keep the talk to Herm. Appreciate your understanding.
I liked herm. When chad was healthy they won games. The Pittsburgh playoff loss always stings and the overreacting to that loss by drafting nugent in the 2nd was brutal but as a whole those jet teams were respectable.
This is probably the best analysis of him overall. I’d say he was average in regards to coaching ability. The Jets made the correct move moving on after 2005.
Beating Peyton Manning's Colts 41-0 in the playoffs was about as good as I've seen it as a Jets fan. Dick Curl was just about embarrassing enough to make up for it.
That was comparable to what the Mud Bowl was to Dolphins fans. Those grass trays they used for the turf were deplorable and it crippled the Colts passing attack.
Let's not forget overreacting to Josh Evans peeing bong water by trading 2 firsts and 4th for a Bowling Ball with butterknives (yes Bradway deserves blame for that but the track record reactionary of panic moves remains)
Maybe they thought they'd luck into a charismatic future Hall of Famer.... "Can't Nobody Block Me" ("He Hate Me" was already taken)
Meh, horrible move trading up for him, bone on bone knee condition pretty much should have taken him out of the top 10-15 but they did manage to get a couple of good years in herms Tampa 2, his downfall was mangini installing the 3-4 and insisting he play the nose. We’ve had way worse picks prior to and after his name was called.
