Like the potential fit as a zone blocker. Hope he is not needed much this year because Fant/Becton are healthy and good. Hope he spends a lot of time in the weight room.
I am hoping we sign another good Tackle in free agency, then maybe you are right. Short of that, BOTH Fant and Becton got injured last year. Both have injury history prior to last year too. Odds are, 3d tackle WILL play meaningful minutes. That's one spot on OL, where we got worse. Morgan Moses is not there any longer, and we replaced him with Max, who is a development later round pick. I want to see another tackle added if possible, because chances are someone else outside from Becton and Fant will get meaningful minutes this year.
In the context of being a 4th round rookie and after 2 games vs the Ravens and J. Clowney, - I’m very pleased with Max Mitchell. He looked better in the 2nd game. Chuma Edoga probably would’ve been injured by now.
Yeah after giving up his 5th pressure and 2nd sack before halftime Edoga would’ve magically been “injured.” Shame on the Jets for never trying to move that guy to guard though. Mitchell has looked decent and as you said, he’s had a tall task in his first two games. These are the types of picks that the Jets must hit on and the good franchises do hit on. He doesn’t have to even be a Pro Bowler but an adequate starter that makes it to his second contract will suffice. I can count on one hand how many post-first round players we’ve had that have accomplished that and started for us over the past 15+ years.
Hah, not the way Fant has played. Brown would immediately take over and upgrade the LT position. The question is would Fant move to RT or become a back-up? Hopefully Fant will up his play. I know he has been dealing with a knee injury coming off the shoulder injury.
This is a great question. But that "when" is an "if". No way they should mess with the chemistry unless Fant or Mitchell start faceplanting. So if he comes back, he's the (NFL's most expensive) swing tackle
We will see, we thought Chuma Edoga was amazing after his 1st couple starts as well. He was thrust into action early just like Mitchell. Mitchell is getting a lot of help from the TEs. How patient is the offensive coordinator to allow that to continue. I also think Clowney suffering an ankle injury helps with our perception of Mitchell as well
No we didn’t. His first start was against the Jaguars if I remember correctly and he got Sam absolutely killed.
