I figured we should do a poll. The questions isn’t whether you want him or if it’s a good move, the question is if it’s going to happen. I think it is going to happen and I think Woody’s the driving force.
Not for the current asking price. MAYBE I'd offer the 10 and a 2nd or 3rd next year and Mims, but that feels like too much. At that price I think I'd prefer taking Williams (my preference) or the best WR Douglas has on his board and maybe double dipping in the 3rd or 4th round for either another WR or a pass catching TE or RB.
If the price is what's being reported, no way Jose. I prefer to get another WR through the draft anyway.
49ers are too greedy on this one. I could see a scenario in which they wait until #9 is in to ensure the receiver they want is still on the board, then they call JD at the last moment to trade for #10. But I'm guessing no.
That's as far as I would go. Would be nice to get a later round pick back also, but 10 straight up is what I would be willing to do push comes to shove.
I voted no; not that I wouldn't want to see Samuels on the Jets, but that the Jets haven't had a bona fide star since Revis, I guess. I don't expect that to change any time soon. The last time a star who could score in every game stretches one's memory. It's interesting that you think Woody Johnson could make the difference because as rarely as he seems to get involved, a big name has been part of the scenario each time. Who knows what will happen?
There may be a deal already in place pending on how the draft unfolds. However JD isn’t paying the high price being mentioned in articles ….
Twitter is having fun right now reading into one of Wiody’s tweets. I think it’s a done deal. I think it’s for #10 and won’t be announced until the 49ers are on the clock. I hope I’m wrong. I hope we trade back and go from there.
They can move him but any team getting him will want assurance he is ok signing long term. I dont think we go above chart value of Hill
Yeah, he has to pass a physical, sign extension. any trade of this magnitude would be done at some point before the draft night, so that physical and extension talks are finalized by then.
I don’t want Deebo, AJ or even DK. It’s not what we set out to do when we traded Adams & Darnold… These guys just want to get paid they don’t care about being a Jet. JDs supposed to be a draft guru and now he wants to trade the picks he got and sign a guy to a max contact? Nah… that bothers me that he’s not confident enough in his eye for talent to draft the right WR in this draft. He’s most likely gonna have a chance to have his pick of the litter at 10. His first draft was an abomination his second draft the jury is still out but looks promising. This draft is make it or break it.
Maybe he’s confident enough in his scouting ability to know there’s most likely no player that can be as good as Deebo in this draft.
I agree especially when Hughes said that the Jets have no WR in this draft graded higher than they graded Moore last year who they waited to take in round 2. When they see such an extraordinarily weak top end WR draft it is telling that the FO has tried so hard to trade for a WR.
Do you really think that people who become GMs of professional football teams don't have confidence in their eye for talent? These guys don't all have a perfect eye, but you don't rise to that position without having confidence in your eye for talent. The much more likely explanation is that he believes (accurately or otherwise) that (a) he has a great eye for talent and can see that no one in this class is likely to rise to Deebo's level; and (b) our offense already relies heavily on youth at key starting positions, and we would benefit from bringing in some more stars with experience rather than more rookies to learn on the job.
I get that but it’s going back on what he said originally that he wants to build through the draft. Trading those assets he acquired for a high priced player is literally the opposite of what he said he was going to do.
Maybe… it’s definitely a possibility.. or he knows his feet are to the fire being a “draft guru” and having one of the worst drafts ever in 2020 and only a few promising prospects in 2021 (Wilson/AVT/Moore). He knows he has to nail this draft.
