Somebody has to guard Dallas Clark. As for Green vs. Huard, I really don't think that Green has played that poorly. Aside from the Brackett near pick, he's made all the throws--they've just been dropped. The problem isn't with the QB, it's with the play calling. 9-0 Colts at the half.
Green isn't playing that poorly, though. Yeah, he almost threw a pick, but most of the offensive woes have been from LJ being shut down and the receivers having the case of the dropsies. I still think Huard never should've been benched during the regular season though.
http://www.rototimes.com/nfl/team/KC Yes, it seems very unHermlike, but if ANY first half performance could do it, this is the one.
I sure we don't lay an egg like these teams. How bad is the football being played here? The Chiefs are terrible. Colts ain't much better. KC is still in it, with 0 first downs in a half!!
Give the Chiefs defense a lot of credit. They've been on the field for the entire first half, and they've looked very prepared. They're anticipating the Colts routes and clogging the seams that Manning usually uses to go deep. I still like the Colts to win, but look for Larry Johnson to have a much better second half. I see this going down to the wire.
This Collinsworth/Whatshisname booth is miles better than Madden/Michaels. Collinsworth is a lot easier to listen to without Gumble dragging him down.
This could actually be a completely new experience for Peyton Manning. The Colts have NEVER won a playoff game with him as QB when he played poorly. Here are his career playoff stats: Year Opp Result | CMP ATT PYD PTD INT | RSH YD TD ---------------------+--------------------------+----------------- 1999 ten L,16-19 | 19 43 227 0 0 | 2 22 1 2000 mia L,17-23 | 17 32 194 1 0 | 1 -2 0 2002 nyj L,0-41 | 14 31 137 0 2 | 1 2 0 2003 den W,41-10 | 22 26 377 5 0 | 1 0 0 2003 kan W,38-31 | 22 30 304 3 0 | 1 -1 0 2003 nwe L,14-24 | 23 47 237 1 4 | 2 4 0 2004 den W,49-24 | 27 33 457 4 1 | 1 1 1 2004 nwe L,3-20 | 27 42 238 0 1 | 1 6 0 2005 pit L,18-21 | 22 38 290 1 0 | 0 0 0 ---------------------+--------------------------+----------------- TOTAL | 193 322 2461 15 8 | 10 32 2 We all know about the career 3-6 record, but note that in the 3 games the Colts won, he was fantastic - 380 yards per game, 12 TDs, 1 INT. In the games they've lost he's ranged from okay (2000 Miami, 2005 Pittsburgh) to awful (2002 Jets , 2003 New England). They've won because of him, they've lost because of him, and they've even lost despite him (sort of), but they've never won despite him.
In addition to that 1995 game... Edwards was employed by the Chiefs as a scout in 1990. The Chiefs lost a playoff game in Miami when Nick Lowery missed a 52-yard kick with 49 seconds remaining. The Chiefs lost 17-16. It was Lowery's first miss in 24 tries. Edwards played for the 1978 Eagles. They lost a playoff game in Atlanta 14-13. Mike Michel was placekicking for the Eagles that day. He was normally the punter. Michel missed an XP and two field goals. One of the missed field goals was a 34-yarder with 13 seconds remaining. Michel never played in the NFL again after that awful performance.
Well, there you go - Herm goes gutless and says that he would "never" take out Green in the second half. Should have known better than to believe him.
