I based this draft on what the Jets did in the off season and the teams need for playmakers, I feel there will be more value in middle of the 1st round and beyond. This is also based on the assumption that Becton is healthy and playing RT. Are you just trying to wind a bunch of people up, or do you really think taking three Edges is a good draft?
Eight starting quality players and you are bitching about a third stud edge rusher? Saleh likes to rotate players and we still haven't made a decision on the long term future of Williams. If you don't like that mock with all of its value I don't know what to tell you. What wonderful players should I have taken at those three spots where I took the pass rushers?
IDK what players were available to you in your mock so I can't answer that question. But I don't think taking even two Edges is going to happen. Are you advocating drafting Walker as a possible replacement for Q? If so, how do you answer those (you might've even been one of them) who say it's a waste to draft another OT even though we have even less reason to believe that Becton will work out than Q? Maybe you're closer to what JD and Saleh are thinking, but I don't think so.
I am a big believer in value. I would rather take any of the three offensive tackles at # 10 than any wide receiver in this draft. Thibs at # 10 was a no brainer when no one wanted to trade up. When I picked at # 16 Sauce and Hamilton were gone as were all three tackles. I forget if Stingley was available but Walker at # 16 was just an incredible opportunity. By the time I got to pick 49 all of the best players at other positions were gone. If all three DEs I drafted turned out to be very good to great players we could have worse problems.
I understand wanting to acquire the BPAs regardless of position/need, but that's what got Macc in trouble. I think you have to balance acquiring the "pure" BPA against what it is you need at that point in the draft. The only exception to that "rule" is if your team is already a winner and you can afford to simply add talent wherever you can find it and fit it. And I sort of agree - with the exception of Williams - that the top OLs are a better pick in the top half of the draft than the other WRs who are then pretty closely bunched together in talent/fit. But I feel the same about Edge - there's Hutch, and then no one else is a slam dunk. I assume we disgree on those assessments, but taking mine into account and applying that to what I know about your mock and player availability/trades, I would've taken Williams at 10 if he was there, or one of the remaining OL I like the best. Then I would've been happy to take Ebiketie as my Edge, Brisker as my safety, although I would've taken Dotson maybe over London I'm not sure. Anyway, the point is that after the 2nd round you can't really count on certain success, and so I think you need to use those picks for the highest priority of positional need which IMO are: Edge, WR, OL, DT.
If you take Williams at 10 Hutch and Walker should both be gone at 16 along with Sauce and Hamilton so who do you take at 16? Hutch at 10 is something you don't pass up.. The real problem I had at 16 is that everyone else undervalued Walker and I already had Hutch. Linderbaum was probably the next man up in terms of value but that wasn't the call I wanted to make there.
