Good work. I think this mock shows that the Jets can have a great draft even if the more standard predictions (Thibodeaux, Ekwonu, etc.) don't work out.
I'm re-signing Maye, signing Darius Williams CB and D.J. Chark/Marquez Valdes-Scantling WR either of these guys. What do you guys think? 4. Kayvon Thibodeaux EDGE Oregon 22. My following draft included one trade down, I traded the 10th pick for Packers 22nd and 28th picks. I based this draft on what the Jets did in the off season and the teams need for playmakers, I feel there will be more value in middle of the 1st round and beyond. This is also based on the assumption that Becton is healthy and playing RT. This is how the board fell to me: 4th pick- Aidan Hutchinson/ DE- Michigan 22nd pick- Drake London/WR-USC 28th pick- Treylon Burks/WR-Arkansas 35th pick- Trey McBride/TE- Colorado State 38th pick- Devonte Wyatt/DT-Georgia 69th pick- John Metchie/ WR-Alabama 111th pick- Darian Kinnard/OT- Kentucky 117th pick- Channing Tindal/LB-Alabama 146th pick- Haskel Garret/DT-Ohio State 163rd pick- Marquese Bell/S- Florida A&M

Here's a possible updated, no-trade mock using the Draft Network simulator: 4. Kayvon Thibodeaux EDGE, Oregon (alternate: JJ, who appears to be similarly talented but a better fit as a team player) 10. Jameson Williams WR, Alabama (at this point, I'm in favor of swinging for the fences in getting a premier deep threat that will maximize Zach's arm strength) 35. Nakobe Dean LB, Georgia (can't pass up first round talent and excellent scheme fit) 38. Travis Jones IDL, UConn (Jets desperately need a run stopping DT) 69. Nicholas Petit-Frere OT, Ohio State (fixes the swing tackle problem as he's groomed as a future starter) 111. Coby Bryant CB, Cincinnati (much needed depth/starter challenger for CB, excellent scheme fit) 117. Brian Robinson Jr. RB, Alabama (thumper to complement Carter) 146. Luke Fortner IOL, Kentucky (interior OL depth) 163. Bryan Cook S, Cincinnati (beefs up the safety position)
4. Kayvon Thibodeaux Edge Oregon 14. Devin Lloyd LB Utah 35. Breece Hall RB Iowa State 38. Kenyon Green OG Texas A&M 45. Devonte Wyatt DT Georgia 69. Jeremy Ruckert TE Ohio State 111. First trade was with the Saints (# 4 & 69 for 16, 19, 49 & next year's fifth rounder) Second trade was with the Bears (# 19, 111 & 146 for 39, 48 71). Third trade was with the Jaguars (# 71 & 163 for 65) None of our future picks were sactificed.
Are you just trying to wind a bunch of people up, or do you really think taking three Edges is a good draft?
Eight starting quality players and you are bitching about a third stud edge rusher? Saleh likes to rotate players and we still haven't made a decision on the long term future of Williams. If you don't like that mock with all of its value I don't know what to tell you. What wonderful players should I have taken at those three spots where I took the pass rushers?
IDK what players were available to you in your mock so I can't answer that question. But I don't think taking even two Edges is going to happen. Are you advocating drafting Walker as a possible replacement for Q? If so, how do you answer those (you might've even been one of them) who say it's a waste to draft another OT even though we have even less reason to believe that Becton will work out than Q? Maybe you're closer to what JD and Saleh are thinking, but I don't think so.
I am a big believer in value. I would rather take any of the three offensive tackles at # 10 than any wide receiver in this draft. Thibs at # 10 was a no brainer when no one wanted to trade up. When I picked at # 16 Sauce and Hamilton were gone as were all three tackles. I forget if Stingley was available but Walker at # 16 was just an incredible opportunity. By the time I got to pick 49 all of the best players at other positions were gone. If all three DEs I drafted turned out to be very good to great players we could have worse problems.
I understand wanting to acquire the BPAs regardless of position/need, but that's what got Macc in trouble. I think you have to balance acquiring the "pure" BPA against what it is you need at that point in the draft. The only exception to that "rule" is if your team is already a winner and you can afford to simply add talent wherever you can find it and fit it. And I sort of agree - with the exception of Williams - that the top OLs are a better pick in the top half of the draft than the other WRs who are then pretty closely bunched together in talent/fit. But I feel the same about Edge - there's Hutch, and then no one else is a slam dunk. I assume we disgree on those assessments, but taking mine into account and applying that to what I know about your mock and player availability/trades, I would've taken Williams at 10 if he was there, or one of the remaining OL I like the best. Then I would've been happy to take Ebiketie as my Edge, Brisker as my safety, although I would've taken Dotson maybe over London I'm not sure. Anyway, the point is that after the 2nd round you can't really count on certain success, and so I think you need to use those picks for the highest priority of positional need which IMO are: Edge, WR, OL, DT.
If you take Williams at 10 Hutch and Walker should both be gone at 16 along with Sauce and Hamilton so who do you take at 16? Hutch at 10 is something you don't pass up.. The real problem I had at 16 is that everyone else undervalued Walker and I already had Hutch. Linderbaum was probably the next man up in terms of value but that wasn't the call I wanted to make there.
PFF 10. Evan Neal, OT, Alabama 16. Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama 35. Boye Mafe, Edge, Minnesota 38. Travis Jones, DT, UConn 53. Christian Harris, LB, Alabama 62. Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama 69. 4. Kayvon Thibodeaux Edge Oregon 10. Garrett WIlson WR Ohio State 35. Linderbaum OC Iowa 46. Quay Walker LB Georgia 69. Isaiah Spiller RB Texas A&M 77. Jeremy Ruckert TE Ohio State 111. The kicking situation can be stabilized with York.
