This would have been solid three years ago but he’s been brutal since leaving the Rams. Pineiro might win this competition outright.
I disagree. Look at Folk Hero. He got great again with NE after sucking here. Familiar pattern I agree LOL, but you never know with these kickers, give him a shot,
what was wrong with our current kicker? Didn't have a monster leg but at least he was fairly accurate.
I think Pineiro is going to beat Zurlein outright. Accuracy, age, familiarity. Zurlein just doesn’t have it anymore.
Did the Jets withdraw the 2.4 million RFA tender otherwise once Pineiro signs the tender it would take a lot for the FO to choose to Zurlein over him. I don't see JD throwing away 2.4 million very easily.
How was he horrible last year? He hit 82% of his kicks and 3/6 of his misses were from 50+. He was bad on the XP front missing 6, but this is the type of guys we need to be signing. Not these nobodies like Sam Ficken who can’t even reach the posts on 50 yarders.
You answered your own question there. Missing 6 extra points is god awful. If a Jets kicker ever did that we'd be begging for Douglas to cut him and sign someone off the street because they'd be better. Like Pineiro.
He wasn’t great but he’s been good before. I believe he was hurt with a bad hammy as well. Nick Folk missed 5 PATs last year and Daniel Carlson missed 3 in 15 fewer attempts. They’re two of the best kickers in the league. I don’t think 6 is any sort of absurd number even if it’s worse than you’d like to see.
The Jets have 2 kickers already, so I’m sure this is just for competition. People are reacting to this like they just handed him $20 million guaranteed.
Couple Folk’s XP stats with his FG% (92%) and there’s a big difference between the way both should be valued. Same with Carlson (93%). At the end of the day who cares. Hes nothing more than competition at this point in his career. He’s been in the bottom third of FG% the last two years, maybe there’s a resurgence in him but most likely not.
This kind of competition at K never seems to work for us--Pinero did enough in real game opps and unless he looks like shit coming into this season he earned the job.
Nick Folk was one of the best kickers the Jets ever had. In 7 years, he only missed 2 extra points 204-206. Overall he made 82% of his FG attempts. From 50+ he was 18-30 which is not stellar but good, and a lot steadier than many Jets kickers of the past and most of the present. Yes, he has better numbers in NE, but that doesn't mean he sucked here.
It’s a bit deceptive to use that though as Folk only played two of those seven seasons with the Jets when the XP was moved back. Still, yes, he was very good for us.
