That first Pat's champion just got hot at the right moment and they caught a huge break in the snow. That kind of lightning in a bottle just does not happen very often.
Well I think we're going to beat the Pats on Sunday. Whether that turns into a run or not I don't know.
Luck? LMAO - I wouldn't call winning 4 playoff games "luck". And I love how people think one bad call in a Divisional Playoff game made a big difference. We earned our title in '01, and we'll do the same this season.
It makes a Difference when the One Call GAVE you a win - because a Loss means the rest of the Run never happens - As opposed to the overhype of the Bill Buckner Play which cost the Sox nothing as the METS had already tied the game when that play happened in 86.
You didn't win 4 playoff games, you won 3. Oak, at Pitt and in the SB. That call didn't make a huge difference? if you don't get it you lose and therefore do not win that SB. NE wasn't dominant that year like they werer in '03 and '04.
I think the '01 JETS are a much better comparison. Like in 01 we weren't really good at anything (with one exception), but managed to win, even if it wasn't always in the prettiest ways. The big difference is that we had a dominant season from Curtis Martin this year, while our run game hasn't been all that good this season. Also, Testaverde was pretty much useless that year, while Pennington has been league average. But I do see some a bunch of similarities--first year coach, couldn't stop the run, etc...
We were also great on the road that year like this year(7-1 in '01, 6-2 this year) under 1st yr HCs and our D's struggled big time early in the year and got better as the season went on after adjustments made by the coaches and players.
This is why most Pat's fans are delusional (sp?). How do you just deny probably the worst call in the history of sports ever happened?
We might be delusional but we have won 3 out of the last 5 super bowls, by the way when was the jets last super bowl win, no when was the last time they were even in the playoffs
Typical Patriot fan response. In fact this is their ONLY response to anything remotely negative in their team's direction. Tell me, what about the 3 decades prior to 2001 of Patriots football? 3 decades that showcased years of irrelevant losing teams and 2 super bowl blowouts? Patriot fans are so quick to point out their recent success..but the years of subparity before this current era are absolutely meaningless. Tell me, were you even a fan before 2001? Does the name Kevin Grogan mean anything to you? How bout Scott Zolak? I have nothing but respect for what the Patriots have accomplished within the last 5 years, and for the long time knowledgeable Pat fan who appreciates the recent sucess. But I'm incredibly sick of this typical response.
What is this about a "bad call?" If this is referring to the tuck rule, wasn't that the correct call? Bad rule, but good call. And great job by that dickhead to challenge the call on the field.
Call or rule is semantics... the bottom line is that was a fumble... everyone knows it was a fumble... Just because it was some obscure rule doesn't negate they benefited from something they shouldn't have...
Umm, no. The bottom line is that was NOT a "fumble," at least not as that term is defined by the rules. If there was some bogus roughing the passer penalty (ask Pats fans about that sometime) or PI call, you'd have a point. But it wasn't and you don't. You could say they were lucky to benefit from some obscure rule, the same way the team that wins the toss in overtime is considered lucky. But last I remembered, Vinitieri had to make a couple of sweet kicks for the win. Trust me, I live in New England and I hate the Pats and their dickhead fans as much as you do. But they earned that one.
Didn't answer the question when was the last time a jets team made it to the super bowl ? I have the answer 38 years ago. If that isn't a team which is irrelevant I don't know what is. But keep on dreaming because in 2 years your coach will be fired because he didn't get you their either
And in 2 years, your head coach will retire, and you'll go back to being the irrelevant joke you were for 3 decades...
he might but at least will have 3 super bowl titles and maybe one or 2 more. That'll be more then chad and the jets
I wasn't aware of that, honestly, but I'd say its because a) its a stupid rule; b) its an obscure rule; and c) its obscurity cloaked its stupidity up until it affected a playoff game. They change a lot of rules over the years remember. Doesn't make the Packers of the 60s lucky.
