Swayman was stopping everything. I thought it was going to be one of those bad beats right up until the moment Chytil scored. Rangers energy looked good but they couldn't crack the net and then somehow they won anyway.
How much praise can we heap on Igor Shesterkin? This guy is not only filling the skates of a legend, but he has become one among the fans himself!!!
Some goalies like having a clear look at the puck with defenders up high on the shooters. Other guys like as much muscle as they can get keeping the crease clear. Shesty will take whatever he's got at the moment and make the stop. Lundqvist and Richter were both the same way. Somebody in the Rangers organization really knows goalies.
We need to score more goals period. The Rangers want to win every game 2-1. We should be scoring 4 goals a game with the talent on the roster.
saw a hilite reel... he was outstanding... but, in the main, we are not a very high scopring team.. it'd be nice to bang another goal a game out.... we do 2 and 3 too often for me...
We're also winning the faceoffs if just slightly. Zibanejad has become noticeably better than earlier in the season.
If it were not for Shesterkin I'd agree with you. The Rangers have gone deep in the playoffs behind their goalie a bunch of times in franchise history and I think this is going to be one of those years. Whether we win a cup or not will depend on everybody else. I remember the 78-79 finals. Rangers got there behind John Davidson flopping all over the crease and denying everybody. The talent on the team was good but not great, nowhere near what the Rangers have now. The things to watch for down the stretch are the 3 young stars-in-waiting in Lafreniere, Kakko and Chytil. All it will take is one of those guys coming on strong and the Rangers will be the team to beat in the East.
i remember that run was the years i got into hockey... chose Rangers over Islanders cos it was new to me and my neighbor liked the Rangers (he was how i got into hockey) and I liked the unis better the hot goaltender in PO IS a thing....i know... be we have never won that way so i sorta feel that wont change stars in waiting look like overdrafted/rated guys so far more likley, to me that is, that Artemi, Kreider, Mikka get HOT (or one does) and we get more out of the role players on the 3rd and 4th lines than the young guys get hot
