One of the big excuses is that the 2020 draft was bad because it was for Gase. If that's true than why do so many want to use another #1 pick this draft on a Mims type player?
Well, I can't argue much about those players but post Gase the drafted players look a lot better equipped (injury proneness aside) I am not a fan of Mims but he looked better under Gase's scheme than he ever has this year, it is blatantly obvious something has gone on behind the scenes with him and the CS. Clark is harsh, two season-ending injuries are not really JD's fault, Zuniga was an awful reach, Perine also better suited to Gase than current scheme. Mann has been frustrating if you can even get really frustrated about a punter tbh.
I'm not continuing as it is likely to lead to a fallout, the bolded is why, again I know you're more football savvy than this. GASE wanted him GASE got him and then ran him to 16k yards as promised whilst ignoring all the other RB's. You know this.
Because the player you’re alluding to is not similar to Mims at all outside of being the same height.
The culture was established. They hadn't been a joke of a franchise, and good players were added via the draft and FA, while Idzik and Mac mostly missed, or the good players Mac drafted didn't last long.
This is a Joe Douglas Project His big additions were the new head coach and Zach Wilson.plus he made some good trades..if all this fails because the talent is not brought in and supporting cast by Spring 2022 in FA and Draft I am done here ..how about you all???
IDK if I'm "done". That depends on how bad it is, and why. If JD adds FA that everyone agrees should work out, and drafts players like that, but injuries cripple them again, IDK if I'd call it quits. That said, I'm sick of how the Jets always seem to be hit by more/worse injuries than anyone else and I don't think that's just coincidence, so that means the GM has some ability to improve that and if we're still having bad injuries then JD has to own that. But I share your frustration. Almost 60 years with this team and only 1 championship. But I quit following the Jets I'll be done with football too.
I'll be done with the NFL before I'm done with the Jets. Their product is slowly becoming something that is harder and harder to support or fully enjoy.
No, it isn't like you can go and choose another team, you may wish you had 35+ years ago but you didn't and now you're stuck until death releases you.
Dude, if you think Burks is a "Mims-type player," then that explains a lot of your other posts that are off the mark. They don't even begin to be the same type player. SMH
It's easy, because the situations are in no way similar. Go look at the Bengal's roster during those two bad years, and if necessary look up the players if you don't know them. The Bengals had a lot more talent than the Jets did, they had been to the playoffs more recently than the Jets, and didn't have the buffoonish culture that the Jets had. They have a better history than the Jets have had.
You said "excel on other teams," which I consider to be synonymous with star players. But if that's not what you meant, my point still stands that every team has a bunch of decent players, even if the GM is doing a bad job.
The root of the disaster this year was the decision to throw an unprepared rookie QB out on the field day one and apparently have no plan for what would happen if he didn't get the memo on how the offense was supposed to run early in his career. Zach Wilson was not prepared in training camp instead he was given the job and allowed to do whatever he wanted with it. That is not an NFL-level decision making process and it led directly to the problems we saw before the injury. Those problems in turn led to the problems we saw after Zach's return. At a minimum the Jets need to have a 100% professional process in place for managing Zach Wilson in year two because he's going to screw the pooch otherwise and drive everybody else out of town alongside him. He'll be driving a clown car of course and the clowns in there with him will fully deserve the ride.
Like it or not, Douglas’ counter reset when he hired Saleh. Woody, thankfully, learned not to try to arrange marriage a gm and hc. The only good thing to come from Rex/idzic . There’s no pressure, no warm seat, just guidance to go execute whatever plan he told woody he had when they fired Gase and gave him the keys to the car.
I also said 'good' players more than once. But we'll go with your critique for the moment.. You don't think Carter RB would excel at another team? You don't think Moore would excel at another team? But I said right from the off 'Not really true that though is it? We have a lot of good players, they just need some more good players to help' In response to this 'Douglas has stripped down the team, but he hasn't rebuilt anything of worth.' No mention of 'star players' anywhere to be found.
I think they would be decent players on other teams. My definition of excel is playing at or near Pro Bowl level, and I don't think either of those guys would do that on other teams. Maybe one day, but that can be said for a lot of young players around the league. Regardless, when I said Douglas hasn't rebuilt anything of worth, my idea of something of worth is something that stands out among other teams, even a couple position groups that are impressive. Having several decent players on the entire roster doesn't stand out at all; every team has that, even the really bad ones.
The context need to evaluate JD's record this far is to look at how many players on that roster that he took over are even in the league anymore. The prior 6-8 years of Jets drafts yielded next to nothing of value. Definitely no stars. Barely any starters. Not even special teams level players. There was a solid reason for him to have negotiated such a long deal. This was a legit 3-5 year rebuild. I know some folks claim that in the modern NFL teams can be turned around in a season or two. I think if you take an honest look at the 6-8 draft classes preceding JD taking over it's easy to see why this situation was an exception to that rule. Sent from my Pixel 5a using Tapatalk
We survived the Adam Gase Era and going (2-14) in 2020 and (4-13) in 2021. If you are still here, you are staying here.
Trading away a top three pick after just three seasons was a really big move. If Sam is successful and Zach fails there is no way JD should be safe. He does not get to ruin three QBs.
