2 wins in 2020 4 wins in 2021 I realize that he is building the team predominantly through the draft and I also realize it was never going to be a 1 year fix. As we enter his 3rd full off-season...Joe Douglas simply has to get this team to win more games in 2022. The Cincinnati Bengals were 4-11-1 in 2020. This season they went 10-7 and are now playing in the AFC Championship game. I do not expect that big of a turnaround, but I think it is fair to say that Joe Douglas has to get this team playing truly competitive football in 2022. What are your thoughts on the scrutiny and pressure that Joe Douglas may face this off-season? Fair/unfair? As always, I hope you guys check the video out. Go Jets!
JD has a 6 year deal so his seat isn't all that warm. It would be nice if the team added 2 more wins so we would be triple our win total since he took over which is something to hang a hat on although 11 losses is exactly that. Quantum Leap? I doubt it. Competitive football? would be nice. '21 redux? Possible but not acceptable. All depends on the optics.
Pressure and hot seat aren’t necessarily synonymous. I guess what I mean to say is that if he doesn’t have a great off-season, that seat will begin to warm.
I’d also add that the Jets can’t get blown out in a bunch of games. I count these as outright blowouts; Patriots 2x Bills Colts Broncos I count these as games that we had no shot even if the box score looks nicer because of late rallies; Falcons Saints Bills The season can’t be over before Halloween. And six wins with a couple consolation wins down the stretch against bad teams when we’re 4-11 doesn’t bode well in my mind.
I think JD is under pressure from the media and Jets fans, but not at all from the Johnsons, nor should he be. He was hired in 2019 after the draft and FA, so there was nothing he could do to help a team with one of the worst rosters in the NFL, if not THE worst roster. Adam Gase was the HC and JD tried to draft players that Gase wanted or that fit his schemes. Gase was fired, and Adams' forced his way out of town, JD realized that he needs to tear down the roster and start a rebuild from scratch. That's not going to be a 1-2 year process. The team had no identity and definitely not a winning culture. They had the culture of the expansion NY Mets, except they weren't thought of as "lovable" like the Mets were. They were a clown shoe, a disgrace. Several posters have thrown out Cincinnati, and it isn't an apt comparison at all. Cincinnati had a lot of talent on their team, and they had been to the playoffs and been competitive. From 2011 through 2015 they had seasons of 9-7, 10-6, 11-5, 10-5-1, and 12-4, then had had seasons with 6 wins, 7, and 6 wins before falling off to 2-14 and 4-11-1. The Jets had not been to the playoffs in years, and had not been competitive in years. During that same period as Cincinnat, the Jets records were 8-8, 6-10, 8-8, 4-12, 10-6, 5-11, 5-11, 4-12, 7-9, 2-14, and the 10-6 and 7-9 seasons were flukes. Cincinnati did a retool which the Jets are for all intents and purposes, rebuilding the team from the ground up and trying to change the culture.
If anyone is under pressure it should be Saleh. JD has done his job getting talent on the roster. I feel the 4-13 record is a disappointment given the talent acquired by JD and the reputation that preceded Saleh coming here. There has to be improvement and that falls on Saleh now.
Why not? I am fine with a patient rebuild, but the time to win is now. The NFL is designed for each team to compete. They want parity. To continue to lose every season is almost as difficult as it is to win like the Chiefs. Going into Year 2 of Robert Saleh, I truly think they should be able to double their win total to (8-9) at a minimum. If not, I would start to worry about this Douglas/Saleh era. I am not saying they will get to the AFC Championship next season, but they should be able to compete for a Wild Card spot or at least be "In The Hunt" in December. Good video!
There is no GM in this league who isn't under pressure so what else is new?? Whether your Jacksonville getting the Lawrence pick to work out the LV Raiders to get further into Playoffs or the Bills who were out coached ...there are questions and the GM is the The Answer Man So being Lukewarm on our GM so far he will establish more favor with all of us with 8 or 9 wins come September Like NC alludes a hard task for JD considering we are not exactly Cin 2.0.,,but I am setting my expectations high tbh Just sick of being non competitive bottom of the barrel Team that gets blown out and ruins Sundays:/ Call me impatient frustrated but so are YOU...right?...
6-27. That's 2 wins more than Rich Kotite in his blowout here. If JD isn't under pressure then something is very wrong in the Jets organization. Leon Hess handpicked Kotite and loved him. He threw him overboard after two seasons because he knew he'd blown the choice. Are the Johnsons as savvy as Hess?
The Johnsons are savvy at reinventing PT Barnum with the Circus of NYJets The fans are just a bunch of suckers reborn year after year Their yardstick of success are asses filling seats ...JD is just helping keep the "Dream" of Championship alive I sincerely hope the Future proves me wrong ...but show me plz
What does 2011-2015 have to do with 2018-2021? How many players were left on the Bengals roster from 2015 that made them successful in 2021?
Is the difference not a full-blown strip-down and rebuild to whatever the fuck Kotite was doing as HC/GM with added draft disasters on top. I mean, they just aren't comparable really.
He’s under pressure because if he doesn’t start winning games he is going to potentially lose his job. And yes, we are all frustrated by losing.
Regardless, Parcells took that 1-15 Kotite team and made some changes in the off-season and went and won 9 games the following year. The 49ers went 7 years with only one season at .500 and then Harbaugh came in and went to back to back conference championship games. They then fired him, went 5 more seasons in the same situation and Shanahan has now taken them to two in three years. The Rams went 12 years with one .500 season. They revamp their staff and front office and they’ve now been in the playoffs 4/5 years including a SB appearance and two conference championship games. The Titans? 7 years, one winning season. Now they’ve been in the playoffs 4/5 years as well. The Bengals example might be beaten to death because it’s in our face with them being in the AFC Championship game and they certainly need to have more long term success to buy into their strategy. The Cardinals as well with their ascent. But the point is - it’s a myth that a teams need an eternity to be rebuilt.
Not really true that though is it? We have a lot of good players, they just need some more good players to help be that some FA's that actually come in and shake a leg and actually try rather than bag fill and JD does as well if not better than 21 in the draft we may well be getting ready to turn that corner off shit show avenue.
Completely fair and to be honest, if they aren’t close to 8 wins at seasons end, that could be an issue.
