Personally, I think Schott would be crazy to accept an offer to be a HC. He just isn't ready. However, I see no problem with him interviewing for a HC position. It is good experience to do so. Assuming all goes well for us in the future he will remain on the radar of other teams for several years. But I don't see Schott as comparable to Mangini. He has proven he is a creative offensive mind, but with the exception of working for his dad (who I don't consider a great coach), he doesn't have a great pedigree. Mangini worked for both Parcells and Belichick. Specific to the jobs being discussed: Atlanta - The Falcons just fired the young son of a mediocre NFL HC. Do they really want to go down that road again. Schott might be a great OC for that team, but is he equipped to handle Mike Vick? Miami - Schott does not fit the mold. After Shula they had Jimmy Johnson (NCAA National Champ and 2 SB wins), Dave Wanestedt (top notch coordinator and former NFL head coach), Jim Bates (interim coach) and Nick Saban (NCAA National Champ). With Capers and Mularkey on staff, and other outside high profile candidates available, I just don't see them bringing in a young guy like Schott. I think we are safe for this off-season, but maybe not much longer. DbJ
hes right miami is probaly going to end up hiring one of their co-ordinaters, and we might see tice go to atlanta.
The exact same thing was being said about Mangini last year...Just wait until someone tries to tamper with Kerry Rhodes....
Tice to Atlanta? I'm sure there'll be nooooo problems between him and Vick. Well at least there's no boating in Atlanta
I was listening to ESPN this morning and they mentioned that there is a possibility that Schott Sr. may loose his job in San Diego and he would probably end up in Miami.
Unless there was a monumental colapse in SD I can't see any senerio where Marty Sr. get fired after a 14 -2 season....
Relax....Miami is hiring a GM first unless they get a Big Name....no way Schott is that man and GM coming in will not want a rookie coach who's under 35. Schott will be here again next year, guaranteed.
I think a more likely scenario would be Cam Cameron going to Arizona and Schott going back to SD to be OC where he would eventually become the head coach.
You don't really believe the whole plane ride back from Denver thing do you? I think it is a fabricated story made up by the Pats because they couldn't tolerate Mangini leaving New England to coach the hated Jets. If this was true Kraft and Belly have both the means and power to have something done about it. They're not the kind of guys who would sit back and not act on it.
My only concern is that I'd rather have him working 100% on his gameplan than on prepping for an interview.
I was reffering to the sequence of events where one of your temas young, inexperienced, coordinators gets lured to a division rival and then a division rival starts planting the thought of big $ in one of your young up and coming players' agent's ear..... a la what the Jets did with Deion Branch. :shit:
ah the advantages for getting into the tournament. even if he remotely considered for a HC opportunity, they have to wait to talk to him and alot of teams don't like to wait.
The NFL is very reactionary. Once there is success in doing something everyone copycats. Now -- b/c of Mangini -- other teams are less scared of taking young guys (in their 30's) with no HC experience. Simply, if it worked for them (Jets), it can work for us. Its also cheaper.
Sorry this is what the Miami papers are reporting today http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...an05,0,4591429.story?coll=sfla-dolphins-front Shott is NOT on the list
Two different personalities. Look at schott. Do you think he's a leader? He gives me the impression that he'd end up like Mike Martz at best...for now. I'm not saying he won't or can't. I just can't see it right now.
There's no evidence anywhere that Mangini or anybody related to the Jets "planted" notions of big dollars in Deion Branch (or his agent's) ears. Only an idiot of an agent would not have been thinking big bucks extension for his client as he neared the end of his first contract. Same goes for Deion himself. Did the Jets jump in with an offer when Branch was given permission to negotiate a trade? And did that violate the terms of the Patriot's release to negotiate? I'm not sure on either count, however the sanctions if they were to be applied would be to Deion's agent who was the only person (apparently) to whom the Patriots released the full terms of the opportunity. I saw the controversy last summer and the first thing I thought was that the whole thing looked like a trap laid by the Patriots to get Mangini and the Jets. Apparently the NFL thought so also and they declined to act on the Patriot's tampering allegations.
