If we’re taking a WR at 10, then he needs to be at the level of a Julio Jones/Jamarr Chase . None of these guys are on that level. We are better off focusing on other holes at 10 instead of WR. I like the idea of Jameson Williams in the 2nd round and red shirting him next season. We can sign a one year rental until he’s ready. Williams only going rd 2 bc of his injury and probably would’ve gone top 15 before injury. I would prefer going this route if Williams is there at our rd 2 pick
I think Hurts is a pretty good QB. If the Eagles give up on him, IMO it wouldnt be smart but I hope our Jets inquire. He's non-conventional but he's a hell of a kid
Yeah, if the third ranked edge rusher refuses to be drafted by the Jets at 4 then he's a crazy person and should be avoided at all cost.
Chase and Julio were each the best WR prospect in years at the time and they got taken at 5 and 6. I think taking one of the WR's this year at 10 is reasonable.
You explained what you believe his limitations are, not why he hasn’t progressed. In what way hasn’t he gotten better? He was nearly a zero read quarterback in his freshman year at Alabama and he just took the Eagles to the playoffs. That doesn’t happen by accident. He improved his completion percentage from year one to year two in the NFL by almost ten points. He improved his touchdown to interception ratio, quarterback rating and sack%. For what it’s worth, I really don’t care what Eagles fans say. That’s the same fanbase that was done with Andy Reid after one losing season.
Could be. But for comparisons sake, if you add up each of their first 13 games (Hurts first 13 starts), Hurts was much better. 17 touchdowns to 8 interceptions on 58 completion (86 quarterback rating). And he added 795 yards on the ground with 8 touchdowns while throwing for 220 yards per game. That’s also across two different coaches/systems.
How many seasons has Hurts been in the NFL? I'm not diminishing his accomplishment and improvement, just underscoring that experience makes a difference. I'll be shocked if we don't see at least as big a jump for Wilson next year, despite what some doubters here say.
Its easy to improve your completion % when your #1 goes from Reagor to Smith. Even though Smith would constantly have to jump 3 feet off the ground to catch a simple comeback route. Hurts playoff game was basically the same as every game he had against a winning team. Poor reads, poor throws, holding the ball to long. Zero growth and a lot of erratic throws, with no sign that its going to improve.
Mac gave up 3 seconds to trade up from 6 to 3. Two in that draft which were picks 37 and 49. Plus our second in 2019 which turned out to be pick 35.
It’s not that Wilson can’t but dual threat quarterbacks who don’t have a high interception ratio tend to buy themselves more time because they can move the ball with their legs. The addition of the threat of running helps them develop as a passer because it opens up throwing lanes and makes the defense creep up. Wilson can become a good scrambler. He’s a decent enough athlete to do so. But he’ll never be able to run designed quarterbacks on a consistent basis due to threat of injury. Hurts is built (and works out like) a running back.
