What it basically means is each team gets to bid to select a specific overseas market to develop into. A number of teams have the UK not just the Jets. Every team now has to play an overseas game every 8 years. It is likely to be that the Jets play in the UK. Some of these will be home games, but remember that there is an extra game in the schedule now as well. Its all part of expanding the game into new markets and creating more cash flow. It doesnt mean the team is relocating.
Thank you, so this agreement is not "exclusive" and every team will make a similar announcement to this with their market of choice?
Think so. The other teams awarded the UK market are Vikings, Bears, Jags, Niners and Dolphins. I don't know anything about other markets awarded to other teams, but I read it as teams awarded to a specific country market can do things officially in that country on their own - develop their own programmes and marketing. Everyone else would just come under a blanket NFL banner in that country.
I might be wrong. I go by my memory but I think Germany and Mexico are definitely in play. Maybe Canada too. So that makes it 4.
Change the name from the Jets to the Jet-Setters 8 home games 2 in NY 2 in Mexico (Grouped together since they same continent 2 in U.K. 2 in Germany
I know this is not about the Jets moving, bu if the Jets ever left NY, about 5 teams would line up to move here, including Dolphins, Bills, Jags, Panthers, WFT, Raiders?:
Didnt the JAGS commit to like 4 straight years (or more) to playing in London? (my buddy gave up his tickets, so I dont remember)
I'm not sure what you mean but Woody was US ambassador to UK for a few years so there's some connection.
Yes. That was the old agreement which has now expired I think. The Jags fan base in the UK did grow significantly as a result. This 6 team agreement largely replaces that.
Shad Khan was using the London / Wembley thing as negotiation leverage vs the city of JAX.... and used the 7 "home" game "package as a way to keep season ticket holders (1/8th the price)
Its typical. I live in London my whole life. Then when I moved to Canada not only do we have a game in my Soccer teams stadium that I could not go to. Now this. Its like the Jets find extra ways to punish me. Mind you we have been sucking for so long now, but id still go
Woody should definitely move the team to London. But he should leave the Jets name behind. He could rename the team the Werewolves. And then trade for Myles Jack. Can hear the "rip" chants now. Maybe he could make some more cash that way, while leaving Jets fans in peace.
I'm not interested in any schemes for the NFL to squeeze more money out of the world. If Woody moved the team to London I would freed from my curse and I could either pick another team or just be a general football fan and actually enjoy a season without all the pain.
Interesting to see that the NFL awards the Jets the United Kingdom as its International Home Marketing Areas, whilst Miami gets Brazil, Spain and the United Kingdom. Where is the equity in that? https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-unveils-six-teams-who-will-market-themselves-in-the-uk
This is a whole load of nothing. The only thing we will see is a bit more direct UK marketing on the social media channels. The fact that all teams (except Detroit) have a marketing area suggests this. Just the NFL pushing for more money for the owners. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
