I was fine with it at the time, but now with the benefit of hindsight I don't really look back fondly on the Herm Edwards era. That was a lot of boring football.
Yes, Parcells made us competitive and gave us respectability, but he also hurt us with his drafting, trading Hugh Douglas, and by not guaranteeing that he would take Peyton Manning. He let his ego get in the way, and it cost us big time. What Parcells achieved during his 2-3 years here pales in comparison to what his arrogance cost us in terms of not getting Peyton Manning. He also stuck us with Bradway as the GM and I believe was partly to blame for Belichick resigning as HC and going to NE.
NC, at least I was able to enjoy those Sundays. I truly believe that the Johnsons would have still screwed it up somehow. As a Jets fan I am hopeful, but I’m not willing to make book on this edition as of yet. Long term suffering will do that to a fellow.
I hear ya. He had a solid veteran team that played smart and tough and didn't beat itself. They were prepared to play each week. It's been a long time since we've had that.
The Yankees built that team and didn't have to spend as much. But prior to that, and then even for a short time after that, they remained competitive and always in the mix because they spent money more than anyone else did. I don't feel it's a coincidence that since they stop spending money like drunken sailors, that they haven't really been close.
