I am disgusted as the next guy but for me its how this team has looked. I said right from OTAs, I didn't care about W-L but I expected progress from week to week. Not 1/2 step forward (if that) and three steps back. What the problem with AG, besides being a S***** HC, was that he was married to his system and would adjust. Seems to this observer that we are seeing a repeat performance by a CS that will not adjust their failing schemes, and they are failing, to the personal they have. That is what GOOD coaches do if they do not have the talent; they use the talent that exist and puts them in a position to succeed (something this HC preached pre OTAs, etc.)... yet we see things like putting a RCB on one of the best WR in the game not once but three times in man coverage when the DL hadn't even sniffed alien's jersey. OR worse having Boomer on the 1/2 time show made the following comment, " the entire OL missed its blocks on one play." Think about that, not one guy but all of them... I mean you can say all you want about youth, inexperience etc. but this team is a completely dysfunctional right now and that is on the HC. During the game the HC looks like a deer in the headlights and frankly acts like it. His team has not improved... they look and play most of the time like they are unprepared even when they have 10 days to prepare. They players play uninspired (just a supposition but maybe just maybe they do not believe in the system) w/o emotion in schemes that are failing yet this HC blames the players, i.e., its execution! They probably will keep this guy but make no mistake unless he and this CS has a epitome, I do not expect to see anything different then what we are seeing. Sorry for the rant but sick of losing and excuses...enough is enough!
He suxs ..Douglas has to fire him if this continues. I have no respect for JD if he promotes his bad mistake The Browns had coaching changes and other teams do it all the time
You only have so many chances to swap a 1st round pick for multiple high picks. In fact, in my entire time as a Jet fan (1970) we've never had a more valuable pick than the one we used on Wilson. In fact, we have never seen a first round with the potential for multiple huge swaps that would return a bounty of high picks. We could have gone from 2 to 6, and then 6 to 12 and gotten an extra 3 firsts, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds. Just to go from 2 to 12. Any GM serious about rebuilding a trash roster would have taken that in a second. Zach has to become a HOF superbowl winner to be worth what we gave up.
Sorry, but imo you're delusional. It doesn't matter how good your team is, if you don't have a very good QB you aren't going to win consistently and aren't getting to the SB. No competent GM is going to pass up the opportunity to draft an elite QB. In addition, there's no way the Jets would have been able to pay all those 1st round picks in 4-5 years, and we would have seen half of them leave in FA.
"In time" can be a very long time and the team right now is as low as it has been in years. There are three games coming up that I saw as winnable before the season started, now I think the Jets will be lucky to win one of them. You say you believe he will figure it out - have you seen anything concrete that leads you to believe such a thing or is it just wishing and hoping?
I have seen first few weeks of the season where D looked much better than the talent we had. I have seen LaFleur's offense finally clicking in multiple games. I have seen HUGE wins over good teams which were #1 in AFC at the time and now. Saleh also started slow in 49ers, but then improved and ended up in SB largely because of defense. Even last year his defense was top 10 (maybe even top 5, you can check to keep me honest here) in yards allowed in spite of multiple injuries to key guys. Saleh has not put it together yet, there is no argument there, but it's not just wishful thinking that he could and I believe will turn this around. As far as how much time, I think before the end of this season we will see improvements, and next year will be drastically different than this one.
Not if the defense gives up another forty or so each week; and the way they're going it could be fifty.
So, you're saying that the defense which was decent early in the season but has sucked recently is just going to wake up one day back on the right track? I know Saleh's Niner defense was crap for his first two years but got much better in his last two, I linked some stats earlier. What I don't know is how much he was responsible for the improvement. I don't want to wait two more years to see if the Jets defense could possibly improve.
So far looks like you couldn't even wait half a year. I know you are frustrated with the team sucking for last decade, but there is no quick fix I am afraid. Let's see what happens in the last 8 games and then revisit this.
Why do you say I couldn't make it half a year? I haven't called for anybody's head...yet. That doesn't mean I'm happy with the Jets going in the wrong direction and positively need to see some kind of progress in the next two months and it needs to start soon. I'm not ready to ride it out based on some nebulous, unfounded feeling that it will turn around on its own. I've always said Saleh should get a minimum of two years but did leave the door open for an early hook at the bye next year if the team stays as dead as it is now. That said, if nothing changes and there are signs the team is in turmoil by the end of this season I would see little reason to wait until next year, but that would require just about a total breakdown.
There is nothing wrong with adding pieces through FA and filling out the roster and winning a SB. However the core of the team was drafted. Also don’t forget they have one of the best CS in football as well.
They hadnt made the playoffs in 13 years. That "core" and that staff both didnt do anything until they loaded up in free agency every touchdown and every sack in last years superbowl came from players Tampa did not draft by the way
10 starters from the last 3 drafts all high quality players are the foundation, Brady doesn’t even sneeze at Tampa if they aren’t already trending up. Barret is a stud but was a 3 sack a season player in Denver.
And the game sealing ints v brees and Rodgers came form drafted players. 3/5 of the online drafted, evans and Godwin , they have nailed the last 3 drafts leading to the Super Bowl
Actually thats allegedly not true as well. Brady was expecting a free agent frenzy but didnt get it. The Bucs & Chargers were the only teams serious about acquiring him and they weren't his first choices. So Brady chose Tampa over the Chargers but its not like they were hand picked because of their talent
