Most of your characterizations of these players are gross mischaracterizations. Davis has been bad, Moore looks alright but to say he looks like a legit WR is ridiculous. JFM is now paid well so how we got him is ridiculous. And he hasn’t done dick since he was extended. Kroft and Huff have done virtually nothing as Jets. Lawson hasn’t played a snap and I’d hardly call McGovern a top ten center although he should be because he’s paid like one. Guidry sucks. Coles been OK I guess but you’re really scraping the barrel here. I like the Coles and Berrios type guys of the worlds and the Michael Carter III and shit but most teams have those guys. The good ones do. It’s kind of like the Bilal Powell effect. We all liked him, he was a good soldier and a decent backup running back. But those guys are on every roster.
maybe some did. we faced the top defense in the NFL with a backup QB and our defense is missing a ton of key players due to injury. we've been pretty unlucky with injuries
I like Douglas’ approach and I can see where he has overall positive skills in certain categories. I do however think (again my own opinion) that you may in turn be overestimating the quality of some the players on the roster as it stands. Some of your assertions are a little shaded with green I think
like which ones? on the flip side you could be underrating them? it works both ways. when teams are lsoing fans tend to underrate players as a whole and when teams are winning fans tend to overrate them. it's more likely the fan base is underrating our players based on human nature
I agree more or less but Guidry has shown up as a backup Nickel/starting Dime CB. Using him as a boundary CB is the mistake. Also, Davis has obvious ability, the problem for him have been focus drops/fumbles. It doesn’t seem accurate to say he just sucks. I think Becton and Vera-Tucker have the real potential to be plus players. McGovern and Fant have been workable. It’s another good player away from being from being a decent unit, and the the same is true for the DL.
Some would say its a GM's job to avoid acquiring injury prone players but you feel it should be used as an excuse
you can't predict injuries. outside of cashman (who wasn't a JD pick) none of the players we have are "injury prone" lawson blowing out an ACL is a fluke. maye rarely missed time in his whole career. Wilson got a minor injury on a dirty hit, never had knee problems. the list can go on.
Lawson blowing out his ACL for what? The third time? How is that a fluke? He’s been consistently injured since his sophomore year at Auburn.
its a semi-unavoidable bias. we make excuses for our friends family et cet. "good for a Jet" is one of these biases. alotta Jet fans think Jet JAGs are "good"
Becton can be a star if he can stay healthy. Big if at this point. We definitely need a second outside CB to play opposite Hall, either through FA or the draft. Elam or Gardner look like options for day 1 if Stingley is passed on for an edge rusher.
Well for example, Connor McGovern as a top 10 Center. He’s ok, but there are plenty better than him. David Andrews Frank Ragnow Ryan Kelly Garrett Bradberry JC Tretter Rodney Hudson Eric McCoy Ryan Jensen Jason Kelce Corey Linsley Alex Mack All of these guys are comfortably better than McGovern, and I know there are more. McGovern has been a workable player for the $9 million he got but he’s not a top of the league player. Elijah Moore has shown some good things but it’s a huge leap to say he looks like a legit #1 already. Corey Davis also can play but too many concentration drops and fumbles to call him a legit #1. Echols is hanging tough but again, proclaiming him as a legit CB 2 is heavily premature. Some others too. Stuff like MC2 being great nickel for a late pick, and he’s been pretty good but basically all nickels are late picks. They just don’t have enough value to go high generally.
Also in my opinion doesn’t have that much to do with the Rams success. I’d put way, way more on McVay
Lawson ruptured his Achilles, and he actually has had a history of injuries. He’s the only one who I know has chronic injury issues although to me it looks like Ashtyn Davis may as well.
Maybe he confused it with the fact that Lawson has ruptured both his ACLs. Some day maybe he'll only be on the injury report for a contusion or something.
Becton hadn't a history of injuries.. but now he is creating a history of being injured.. makes one wary
you are actually proving my point. only 3 of those 11 are graded higher then mcgovern according to PFF. as far as kelly, bradbury, and mccoy they have been awful this season. but what you did was pick good teams with an overall good o-line and take their centers which is my point overrating players on good teams while underrating players on bad teams. Your a good dude and reasonable and very informed on most things but sometimes you just whiff and this is one of them. Like the other time (which you still never replied to) where you claimed we mostly ran 2 TE 2 WR but I showed you that wasn't true and we mostly ran 3WR 1 TE and it wasn't even close. more then 2 to 1. In this case yes ragnow, linsley, and kelce are better. I never claimed he was top 5. 1 or 2 of those on the list are close to mcgovern according to PFF but below him. that makes him according to them arguably top 5. I'm saying top 10. 8 of those on the list are either equal or worse and about 4 have been awful this year. as far as moore goes, he's towards the top of the league in separation yards per route. QBs throwing to him have a 100+ passer rating (i forgot the exact number) and even with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string QBs throwing to him the past 3 weeks he has 16 catches on 20 targets 195 yards 3 TDs and a rushing TD. over a season thats 1105 yards 85 catches, 17 TDs. that's pretty legit. obviously it's something he would need to keep up but considering he's had white, johnson, and flacco throwing to him the past 3 weeks thats pretty impressive. he's getting open, he's not dropping balls and he's showing great YAC ability. Davis has been a legit 1 for years before coming here. I agree that with the extra volume he's making more errors this year with drops then he ever has and currently looks more like a 2 then a 1 but he could work that out. IDK if there is a difference in tannehill to wilson throwing it (wilson has more of a cannon for sure) but he hasn't been himself lately.
your right it was an achilles. so many injuries this year it's been hard to keep up. lawson has had some missed games due to his knee but we all know achillies injuries are typically freak injuries. just look at maye, rarely missed time with us his whole career and he blew out his. and of course we all remember the vinny t one. shit happens. blaming a GM for injuries isn't really fair at all unless it's someone like cashman who has missed more games then he played
I do not care about PFF, never have, never will. You’re throwing around a lot of cherry picked stats or doing the classic “if you extrapolate that over an entire season” but I watch the all-22 and I’m just telling you what I see. I watch games for other teams including All-22 (obviously not every game) so I don’t need to rely on PFF grades to tell me what players are good or better than others. It’s 100% your prerogative to decide what you think the caliber of the roster is, I’m just adding my 2¢. I like Joe Douglas, I really do, but I get the feeling some of your interpretations are on the side of wishful thinking
