God that was horrible. I was so pissed when Lafleur called that. Run it up the middle you probably score a TD and win but even if you dont you are at the 1 yard line with another chance to win it.
I was calling for QB sneak. But if you watch, an unblocked LB blew up any run up middle, so probably didn’t matter. He was yds in the backfield. So play probably loses yds as well. Missed block. It was egregious. There were many of those in the run game yesterday!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A rollout is the very last thing you want to do in that situation. It wasn't the 2nd quarter. It was overtime and a touchdown wins it. 2 chances to gain 1 yard and win the game. NEVER run a play that moves the ball backwards on purpose in that situation
QB sneak was the right call. They had time because the Coleman pass and run to the goal line was under review. They should've ran up to the line and been ready. As soon as the officials blew the whistle to start play, immediate silent count QB sneak wins the game.
It was like Tennessee knew the play call. We must have tipped them off. There were too many players that side of field. If they went other way, easy TD Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's the old head in you. We got stuffed all game long trying to run the ball and we have had bad interior line play all year that can't get movement including against one of the better defensive tackles in the league against Simmons. I'm fine with something that gives him an option to run or pass, but he needs to be heady enough to get rid of that ball and live to fight another day. This is the modern day NFL, man.
On the contrary, the modern day NFL is filled with QB sneaks. It's the one of the most popular plays among the "modern day" analytics believers. It just doesn't make the ESPN highlights as much. Thats part of the reason why Sam Darnold just set an NFL record for 5 touchdown rushes in 4 weeks, the QB sneak -- that overtime was painful. The Jets deserved to lose because of that godawful decision and then the Titans deserved to lose for playing for the tie
The thing to remember about yesterday is that it was the kind of game that a team like the Jets can win with a bit of luck. The opponent's offense was down due to the absence of their two starting WR's. They lost their center early in the game, which meant the Jets had a good shot at disrupting the QB. Without both of those events the odds are pretty good the Jets lose. However we took advantage of another team when they were down and this is a good sign - since it is how we will mainly win the games we win this year. It's important not to blow your opportunities and yesterday the Jets did not.
How confident are that they would have a) gone for it in 4th and 1, b) scored and c) if they didn't score, Tennessee moving the ball into FG range and kicking the winner? I'm not so sure Saleh goes for it on 4th and 1 and if he did I would have had even less confidence in them scoring.
yeah i get the roll out but nobody was there to throw too and it was blown up. should have let coleman jump the pile again
Nobody would have a problem with the rollout if someone hadn't missed their block or Wilson had thrown it out of bounds. It was a good playcall. That play is designed to give the QB three easy options - run, pass or throw it away. Good teams call plays like that near the goal line all the time, we just didn't execute it well.
I'm very conservative when it comes to things like this so I would have personally just kicked the field goal and opted for the approach they took. I also would've rolled with the QB sneak on third down but the way they called it looked like they were going for it on 4th down unless there's a catastrophic (relative) yardage loss which there was.
I think the problem I have with the rollout is that at no point did I believe Zach intended on throwing the ball, and if that is the case then it was a designed qb run to the corner of the EZ. Maybe that would have worked as an earlier play to set up an inside run but I don't see it as a high percentage play on 3rd and goal.
You have to give it a few weeks, he's a rookie also and yes he's had some bad calls but he and the QB have much on their plate to catch up so no, definitely not ....yet. He pulls more of that shotty shit and I'll be right back herein a few months.
I would’ve liked to see a QB read on the 3rd and goal play rather than a rollout, but a bootleg there wasn’t the worst play call.
