Dos anybody remember another set of brothers who played for the Jets? I've been a fan for a long time and I can't remember another set
Based on what exactly? 7-9, 2-14, 1-3, and we looked embarrassing all along the way. Parcells turned things around right away, not in his 4th season. the man crushing on JD around here is just odd based on lack of any results. It rivals the unusual Mims love, where posters are willing to throw the coaches under the bus before admitting that either JD or Mims may have missed the mark.
We had Mosely's brother on the practice squad for a minute. I can't really think of any others offhand.
i think I remember only one of them making the team. Btw, when I was young I thought Bake Turner and Jim Turner were brothers
He’s been far from perfect but he’s shown an actual plan…again, it hasnt been executed to perfection yet. Build the lines. Get a franchise QB. Don’t overspend in FA. Build through the draft. All correct ways to do business in the NFL. It’s not “ man love” to say he’s the best GM since Parcells, it’s not a high bar to climb. Tannenbaum really had no eye for talent and relied on his HC, which worked until it didn’t. And he overspent in FA. Idzik and Maccagnan wee abject failures that I hope don’t need explanations. Douglas is clearly better than all three imo, but I’d be the first to admit he hasn’t proven a damn thing. But he’s clearly on the right track and he’s not anywhere damn close to any hot seat.
With regards to the bold, I submit that expecting perfection is delusional. We humans are not perfect, nor are our plans. There has never been a perfect GM or plan, nor will there ever be. It's sad that some posters obviously expect perfection from players, coaches and GMs.
It's been about two halves of decent football in 2 years. We aren't toiling with perfection here, we are toiling with abject failure to this point. That doesn't mean we won't get there eventually, but the performance to date deserves criticism, not endless praise and blind faith.
All of the GM's have had a plan, and most explained their plan in much more detail than I've heard JD do. He has not differentiated himself there. It's about execution of that plan, and delivering results that matter. Tannebaum did achieve some level of results. He made a lot of good moves here, and I believe had a winning record with postseason success. Parcells delivered results immediately. To this point, JD has achieved less than Idzik and Mac, which I wouldn't have thought possible when they hired him. Gase's GM backed the wrong coach, and burned a ton of QB draft capital in the process. That's a big hole to climb out of, and not one that I am ready to praise just yet. I will say though that this year's draft crop has a lot of potential, and I love Saleh as HC. JD needs to put peddle down next offseason, and support those investments.
If you like your fandom with blind faith, where everything is roses, I'm not going to tell you to enjoy it any differently. Root for the team however makes you happy.
Please point out the part about everything is roses, as I can't seem to find the part where I typed that? Supporting your team when they have been shit for years and still hoping they turn the corner is the very essence of blind faith. As for the last bit lol WTF is that about? Rooting for them to turn the corner and become an actually winning franchise is something to be denigrated over now it's called supporting your team ffs, it doesn't make everything rose coloured in the slightest and supporting the Jets owes me a lot back rent in happiness.
We’ll have to agree to disagree if you think Douglas is worse than Mac and Idzik so far. Can’t just judge the record. He’s building this shit for the long term. It’s actually Idziks plan, but he couldn’t draft. Mac literally had no plan, so no idea wtf you’re talking about there
It's not Idzik's plan. That's an insult to JD. I don't think Idzik had a plan. He just knew the maxim that teams should build through the draft. Idzik's "plan" basically was just to build through the draft. He had nothing else about which positions should be priorities, plans for FA or trades. He had no idea how to build through the draft, because he didn't know what to look for or how to determine who were talented players and good fits for our scheme, and he was too hesitant/slow in FA, and he didn't use FA.
We certainly are closer to the bottom than the top... hell... we are the bottom. I've got a good feeling about Saleh... he's actually the only part of management I feel good about. Joe Douglas was smart to demand a long term deal... what with the wishy-washy ownership and all. I'm not all that impressed with him so far... but he's no Idzik ffs. The Jets have needed a culture change since Rex was here...
It is very similar to Idzik's plan only Idzik didn't get to choose his scouting department, had a head coach that wanted total control and probably got a lot of the players he wanted (Vick, Louisville Slugger, etc.), and toss on top that Idzik was obviously not a good talent evaluator. People forget the cap disaster he inherited and fixed. He was saving a whole bunch of money that Maccagnan got to spend. Again, he was a terrible draft evaluator so none of it really mattered but this is the same format.
