That doesn't matter. It takes at least 3 years to properly evaluate a draft class, and he was hired AFTER the draft in 2019. It's only been a little over a year since his first draft (2020).
Becton has to stay on the field and then show he can play his position. Mann might be the cream of the '20 class. Mims they refuse to play for whatever reason even though all the kid does is make big plays.
Yes, he did, but he also specifically mentioned the Leon Johnson play (halfback option pass). Johnson never played for the Giants, only the Jets.
Then we can't evaluate JD until his second contract assuming WJ gives him one. 2025 here we come! #can't wait
One thing to keep in mind about the offense is that it is really complicated for WRs with all the adjustments on each route based off the coverage. According to Saleh the receiver, who I think was Moore, ran the wrong route resulting in the 4th interception. There will be lots of growing pains the 1st year in the offense like this. I believe LaFluer said it takes years to get the offense down but when they do hopefully we see some big benefits.
I guess 6/2025 since he was hired 6/2019 to a 6 year deal. Giving JD 2019 means he's halfway thru his contract in 2022. Hopefully we'll see some improvement by then.
By then it will be the 1st year of Douglas' 3rd coach. We wont be able to evaluate that until year 3 at least. You are looking at 2028 minimum before you can judge Joe Douglas' performance
We'd damn well better! If we waste 2-3 years learning an unnecessarily complex offense, keep losing, and wasting the talents of Mims and Moore, then I'll want Saleh's and LaFleurs heads on pikes outside of One Jets Plaza. That would be the only thing I would care about the Jets any more.
No. By 2023 we'll know how good the 2020 draft class was, have a pretty darned good idea of how good his 2021 draft class was, and have some early returns on his 2022 draft class. If Zach develops (as I expect him to) into a top 10 FQB, JD will get a second contract.
I think he gets a second contract anyway. WJ can't afford to be seen as the incompetent Owner anymore so he'll go with consistency win or lose. By then, its a PR battle to keep the fanbase from simply becoming apathetic and not giving a shit anymore. WJ reverts to form, and he might as well hang a for sale sign up at Florham Pk.
Two games and everyone wants Saleh and company to be barnstormers. Rome wasn't built in a day. Just be glad we don't have Gase anymore. Give it time and the plan should come together.
I might be in the minority here but I have no problem with Mimms sitting. He is under contract another 2 years and has plenty of time to make an impact. We have a very strong WR group and hopefully the competition will motivate Mimms and bring out the best in him. But the QB needs to be able to trust him. He is explosive, has good hands, good size and great YAC ability. If he can be motivated to learn the offense and improve his route running he could be a force. He never had a PS last year and was injured a lot. He missed a lot of camp this year as well with injuries. Hopefully he will get better each week. Injuries happen and he will get opportunities. He doesn't need to make an impact today but hopefully by the end of the year he will earn more reps.
I was talking about both, actually. Sure the Giants almost gave up on him, but lucky for them they didn't. Point is, don't overreact to one bad season.
