It gets a little worrisome when we have about 7 positions we want to address in the first round of next years draft.

The Jets have 4 picks in the first two rounds next year; I'd be shocked if the Jets do not take a CB with one of the 4. Douglas' draft strategy is clear - Draft talented players at high impact positions. His first 5 picks in the first and second rounds have been 1 QB, 2 OL, and 2 WR, 3 of the 5 most high impact positions in the modern NFL.
The only positions that should be addressed in the first round of next year's draft are OL, Edge, and CB. Douglas won't be taking an off the ball LB or safety. WR will most likely be targeted again given the Jets have 4 picks in the first two rounds.
I suspect there was extracurricular stuff going on behind the scenes with Austin. He was "out for personal reasons" in the GB game. maybe he's not accepting the new staff
C.J. Mosley is our starting MLB with Hamsah Nasirildeen and Jamien Sherwood as our two OLBs. C.J. Mosley is a 4x Pro Bowler and 4x All-Pro and all @ MLB too, why would we play him out of position @ OLB?
That's a good point - wonder if this is somehow connected. Shocking either way. Can't believe how young this CB group is. It'll be interesting to see what Saleh and the defensive staff can do with this group, but I have pretty low expectations given the lack of experience at CB and missing Carl Lawson's ability to pressure the QB
Did you think we would not have the "worst" secondary in the NFL on paper after all those draft picks? After all, they all are rookies and have never played in an NFL game. Kind of dumb to think otherwise until they have proven themselves in the season

I agree about only Folo. But JD isn't committed to Marcus Maye long term. Hes almost 30 years old which is why Joe Douglas will utilized the Franchise Tag before replacing him through the draft. I like Marcus Maye as a solid player but for a FS he's the opposite of a ball hawk ala only 6 career INTs heading into year #5? Joe Douglas will be replacing him.

Unless Joe Douglas gives Marcus Maye a longterm contract? He's not committed to him. And imo with a fully loaded 2022 Safety Draft Class (like never before) with 6 Safetys mocked within the first 2 rounds? The writing is on the wall. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
Watched Saleh press conference. He said a few interesting things, among them, they believe that all their young corners have the capability to be "high end starters" in this league (he wasn't prompted to say this - just volunteered it). If (i) they felt Bless Austin had reached his peak and wasn't going to get any better, (ii) they think their young CBs could be really good and they want to get them a lot of snaps in games to get them experience and (iii) they're not in a win now environment, then there's no reason to keep Austin around and have him take snaps from the young CBs. It sounds like that was their conclusion and that's why they released him. Interesting that they gave up on such a young player, but they likely saw some things they really didn't like and weren't confident they could coach him up. Likely won't know for while whether this was a good decision or not.
