There’s no replacing what c Lawson was looking like in camp. The idea now is just to get the best we can. I’d imagine this was the best deal out there. He should see some one v one match ups with q and rankins getting attention in the middle. Maybe he can chip in with 6-7 sacks.
Why not? Because imo it would be a waste of draft capital. You want to give up a #1 or #2 draft pick for an edge rusher who has averaged less than 5 sacks per season in his 4 year career? That would be an awful waste of draft capital. There will most likely be 3, maybe even 4 better edge rushers/DEs in the draft next year that we could get with that draft pick. You are panicking. We are not going anywhere this season. It is a rebuilding season and the time to find out what we have in our young players. Then we have the draft capital to address the needs that we have for next season. Burn a good chunk of them for this season, then we have less draft capital with which to address needs next season, and we have less of an understanding of what those needs are because we've brought in other players that took snaps away from the younger players.
You need to reread my post! I said LATE ROUND DRAFT PICKS!!’ 5th is the earliest pick I’d give up. And I think Barnett is his value. Ertz maybe a 5. So where did I say a first. The only one I’d do a first for would be danielle hunter. But that won’t happen. But in the post you quoted I never said 1 or 2
Yeah I agree. With whatever question marks this guy comes with, it's a beggars market now so Joe rolled the dice on a guy from an active roster. The DL players that we kept and the ones that we brought in all seem to be in love with the player-friendly nature of Dline assignments and pressure so there's that unknown factor of "maybe that could be the thing that works with this guy" but the reality is he's going to mostly be a rotational piece to keep the opposing left tackle guessing. I do think he will compliment Huff whose weakness is run defense but he gets after the QB.
Not a bad depth signing and the Texans are basically paying his salary. We can dump him next year or re-sign depending on production. He will fill the Vinny Curry role though. We still need a get off the ball End Interesting to see Lawson was the top rated prep school player coming out of High-School in 2014. Likely because he was so physically dominate (man amongst boys) as was the case for most of his college career too. Life in the NFL is clearly different and he is best suited as a Strong side End in a 4-3 or a DE in a 3-4. Shaq Lawson Draft and Combine Prospect Profile | NFL.com Rex fell in love with him during the 16 Draft. Coples 2.0 IMO Rex Ryan gets Clemson guy with Shaq Lawson (nfl.com)
Who loses a roster spot with this trade? Hamlicar, Zuniga, Marshall, Phillips? On the bright Lawson should help out Huff, JFM, Rankins and Q. Huff can fill the role now of a 3rd down pass rush specialist and not have to worry as much about improving against the run.
Zuniga is gone. That dude is useless. Others from your list may go too after the waiver wire is flooded with other teams cuts
Likely Hamlicar, Zuniga and Phillips are all gone now with the trade of Lawson. Absent the trade one of the three may have made the team. Hopefully, Hamlicar makes the PS. Marshall may be cut or make the team regardless of Lawson. I think he is more dependent on how many DL we keep. My guess is he gets cut as well.
I'm hoping they keep Hamilcar on the roster. I like a rotation of JFM, Huff, Lawson, Hamilcar, and Blair going into this season. Gives us a couple of solid vets and a couple of guys that have shown promise already and could learn a lot from the other guys in the unit.
Yeah! Pete Guerriero. Good news: He should be back on the roster one day this week. Bad news: He will be cut off the roster the next day this week. However, some more Good news: He will be back the following day.
PFF: Shaq Lawson 2018: 76.5. 2019: 68.2. 2020: 70.9. Previous 3 year average of 71.8. Carl Lawson 2018: 79.4. 2019: 55.5. 2020: 76.3. Previous 3 year average of 70.4. Joe Douglas just landed himself a big time steal. From QB sacks to advanced statistics such as QB hits, pressures, knockdowns, hurries to actual film footage and all the way to PFF etc these two guys (Carl/Shaq) have been damn near identical in terms of statistical production on the Football field. Carl Lawson has the slight edge as a pass rusher but Shaq Lawson has a tremendous edge against the run (Carl Lawson's Bengals ranked in the 30s against the run). • I was A+ fired up about Carl Lawson but I'm also A+ fired up about Shaq Lawson because not only has Shaq Lawson contributed to winning Football within top 3 Defenses but alongside of Quinnen Williams we're going to see the very best version of Shaq Lawson himself; and he'll feast as Carl Lawson would've. He's no Vernon Gholston.
I know you did, but we aren't getting Barnett or Ertz for a late-round draft pick. Sorry, but that isn't realistic imo.
