I agree with your first sentence but not a troll thread at all. Tons of good discussion going on in this thread. I am still reading. Let me see what I will read later in the thread
they'll make up stuff to fit their narrative. I mean a certain person said zack doesn't have zip on his balls meanwhile the NFL and rodgers and every analyst always points out the zip on his balls and how it just pops out of his hand like it's shot out of a cannon. Maybe some people are just wrong and it bothers them so much they have to make up anything to feel right? Sure it's way to early to judge the QBs overall but even mac jones is up there with zack while lance has been up and down as expected and fields and lawerence have been medicore.
I'm honestly surprised that you can't gauge what you've seen so far from Wilson, good or bad. He hasn't shown you anything to slightly alleviate the trepidations you had pre-draft? I know the body of work is small but I figured you would pick something up. P.S. definitely not trolling. I was actually looking for just a little cold water to be thrown on the Wilson fire other than he's only playing 2's and 3's.
I had trepidations pre-draft about the level of competition he faced in his break out season relative to who he was playing with. How does him playing every snap with the starting unit against backups alleviate that? He did throw one strike in a muddy pocket w/ defenders bearing down on him (I believe to Cole) in the first game. That was probably his most impressive throw to me as I didn’t see too much of that last season. Other than that I can’t get past the fact we’re playing our starters against backups. That goes for everyone on both sides of the ball. I personally can’t get excited about that but not going to fault those that do. To each their own.
It's live reps against unfamiliar players in a game environment, I am taking it for what it's worth. He showed good instincts and footwork and executed well. That's all you can ask at this point but there's no way the offense will be clicking right away in the regular season and he's likely to stumble more than once. My real concern right now is whether Saleh is so focused on getting him game reps that he keeps him in too long in the final cut-down game when a bunch of Eagles bubble players are trying to make a career out of a handful of plays.
Are you suggesting that the Jets should not have played their starters? Or maybe they should have played all 2nd stringers with the exception of Wilson? New OL, new QB, new WR's.. I'm not sure what the Jets were supposed to do. Granted Wilson has played against backup players but he does look like he belongs in the NFL. He's shown some flashes of why he was picked where he was. Hopefully he continues to grow and continues to play well when the real games start.
I’m not suggesting anything. I’m just not getting excited over what I’m seeing given the circumstances. It’s not their fault other teams elected to play backups. I can wait until the regular season; it’s not that far away.
You wrote that you couldn't get past the fact that we are playing our ones against other teams twos. That's why I asked what I did.
Those that chart passes in summer practices, with a new CS and players and draw conclusions off of tweets by scribes really show a lack of understanding
since i have some people on ignore i can take a guess who you are talking to lol. I wonder how they feel about fields looking bad against other teams 2s and 3s?
only thing worse than looking good against 2nd string (like Zack) is looking bad against 2nd string....(see: NY Jets Starting O-Line)
I wonder how Fields would look playing against 2nd/3rd stringers WITH Allen Robinson, Jimmy Graham, David Montgomery and the like. LOL
Just to make it clear - there is no "anti" Wilson crowd here. At least I'm not. If you think I want to watch another four years of trash football just to be right when debating with a bunch of strangers on the internet you're crazy. There's a difference between being skeptical if someone will be the guy and actively rooting against them. Something that the Sensitive Sally's around here have a hard time deciphering because all criticism is upsetting!
There’s also a difference between preferring a different QB pre-draft and hating on the one we pick post draft. For example, I preferred Josh Allen in 2018 but did not spend 3 years bashing Sam (even though he may have deserved it).
