What Simms said is the Jets were not gameplanning. Rather the Jets were just running their normal vanilla offense. No attempts to gameplan or trick the defense into making Zach look good he then cites examples where Chicago and SF specifically gameplanned plays to take advantage of vanilla defenses and make Lance and Fields look good. Something the Jets did not do.
Thanks for the reminder. How's this? I can't believe that there still aren't many pictures of Zach in his Jets' uni. Even the Jets' website has a photo gallery of him (34 photos) and in every one of them, he's in a BYU uniform.
What he said was that the Jets didn't dial up any WOW plays specifically for Zach to let him look great. Yes, they did include some of the BYU playbook which IMO is smart and common sense (so "common" it escaped Bowles and Gase's understanding for Sam). As to acting like Zach is the only one to improvise and make plays, what he said there was that what has impressed him is that the Jets have asked Zach to just execute the game plan and stay on schedule whenever possible and Zach has done that with only a couple of exceptions, but he made the most of those exceptions. As compared to say Fields who went off schedule much more. I don't dispute that Simms is biased - he even admits it - but that doesn't mean he's wrong.
Am I the only one who thinks Michael Nania (whoever the hell he is) would perform an intensive frontrub on young Zach?
He's basically a fan blogger type that puts out a really polished product. Gotta give him credit for enthusiasm. Nania can be pretty annoying with the constant enthusiasm but he researches the shit out every single thing he does, I wouldn't want to get in a football argument with him just because there's no way I'd ever match his effort at this point.
We were still running scripted plays w/ 1s against backups. That’s an embedded advantage. Game planning would be adding salt to an open wound.
Yeah but that “research” without watching actual games sometimes gets him in trouble. Like he claimed Lamarcus Joyner was a great tackler by the numbers. Technically he’s right because he doesn’t charged for too many missed tackles, However, it’s misleading. Joyner takes bad angles which causes him to whiff on and/or not be in position for many tackles: If you only get a hand on a ball carrier, it doesn’t count as missed tackle.
It would be pretty hard for most of us to match his effort because most of us actually have lives beyond studying and dissecting every move of the New York Jets - who has the time? It's not the effort I decry, it's the apparent inability to lay down the green tinted glasses in favor of objectivity. The need that a couple of people here have to not only link his clips and items but to post his every word as if he is a recognized authority broadcasting a universal truth is almost cultlike.
even with that fields didn't look that good at all. neither did lance or lawerence for that matter. wilson and jones look the best so far but of course it's way too early to judge anything
IDK if you've watched fields but he has not looked good at all. he's basically sam level. potential and flashes but doens't look like an NFL QB yet. looks like a WIP. I think the talent is there with him, he just needs time which is why dalton is starting for them. His 1st game his 1 big TD was a scripted roll out to a wide open target and he added 1 with his legs on an easy run in. outside of those 2 plays didn't do anything. his last game he was 9-19 for 80 yards. tlaw/lance/and fields all look like potential who need time while jones and wilson look like NFL Qbs already
As I watched the horrible preseason game between the Jets and Packers, Zach sort of reminded me of Chad Pennington before he got hurt. In general preseason games suck and you have to be careful not to read too much from them. However, it appears to me, the Jet's offensive line is an improvement. The Tight Ends were impressive specially Kroft. The defense did seem to be exposed to the run. Keep in mind that many of the starters for the Packers did not play, which makes evaluating the Jets very difficult. I hope Jet fans will show some patience with Zack because there will be growing pains. Overall I think he is looking so far as a good pick.
