He told me that he was trolling another member of the board, that member complained to management, and then he got banned.
I've ruminated on that one since it comes up so often. Here's how i think of it Do non power school QB's have a history of making it in the nFL? Occasionally Do they play lower competition? Sometimes..in this case yes If a QB from a small program was going to make it in the pros what would you expect to see on film when they play that softer schedule? NFL caliber player should demolish them What did Zach Wilson do against that lesser competition? Demolished them If all of the above are accurate would i rather have the guy that I've described or a top tier team's QB? I think i'd be good with either. I'm just going to have fun and see how it plays out. It's all bread and circuses anyway.
Thanks. I don't recall the poster BR but I am surprised. Pat Leahy always seemed so polite. He was always seemed a lot nicer to people that were acting out than I would have been.
Totally agree. I know its way too early to judge him overall on his head coaching abilities, but damn, these early returns, his ability to communicate, I'm not use to this. How bad we've been as a franchise over all, shamefully makes me think he's too good for us.......thank you baby Jesus he's our COACH!
He does have a nice throw motion.... ball comes out controlled... which is a to see after watching Darnold toss bricks... His arm may be strong enough... but the ball seems to lose some velocity after some yards in the air... this year I've only seen shitty camp vids so far... but first noticed it on his college highlight reels. Wish he was a little bit bigger... if only to protect himself until the OL gels. Nice to see a few tweets on him working the pocket well... but holding the ball too long is a sign of confusion or indecision... usually both. Getting in sync with the plays and his receivers speed and tenancies will come with time. He's definitively got the physical tools to succeed.... at this point it's all about the upstairs... mentally & emotionally. If the defense is as good as expected... I think emphasis on the run game would be smart... at least until Zach gets comfortable under center in game situations. Let's hope we don't ruin another quarterback... which seems to be what the Jets do best... Anybody wanna bet that Zach tops Darnold in QB ratings at seasons end?
I'm fine with criticism but the Jets beat tends to omit certain details or twist their reports around to rile up the fan base, which is why I cannot stand Cimini or Hughes. At the moment I'm okay with DJ Bien-Aime, he's been solid so far.
I have greater expectations for Zach, even as a rookie, than just having a higher rating than Darnold. That is a pretty low bar in my mind.
It seems that the universal opinion was that Wilson played really well today. Omitting that seems selective, no?
Good post! I definitely thinks Zach tops Darnold in QB ratings and I don't think it will even be close.
Good post! A little more conservative in your assessment than I am, but I generally agree with you. This is what I'm focused on: "He's definitively got the physical tools to succeed.... at this point it's all about the upstairs... mentally & emotionally." So far from what's been reported on in TC, I think he's got the mental and emotional parts down pat, and as he learns and adjusts to the speed and power of the NFL everything else will fall into place. I'll be shocked if Wilson doesn't finish ahead of Darnold quite easily. And I'll be surprised if the Jets don't rely heavily on the running game, and use Zach's quick release to operate a short passing game a la Brady and the Pats used to do, with an occasional shot down the field to keep the "D" honest.
Agree, my thoughts exactly. Use the run game to set-up the pass esp if the OL isn't working well in the first few games as I expect. However, unlike last year, at least these guys are playing together now and will through PS so the jelling that never really materialized last year could be earlier then I expect. I'll tell you and other posters, I am more excited about this team and CS then I have been in years. Igot my wish for the HC, he selected what I think is a marvelous CS and the collaboration between JD and NC selecting the players they wanted has been spot on. Hard not to be enthusiastic but like you and others I'll wait to see how they - players and coaches - perform when the competition and games are real.
We have a 1st year head coach and a rookie offensive coordinator... so I'm expecting some hiccups. I'd be happy with a solid defense and a ball control offense that kicks a shit load of field goals...
In all seriousness, Wilson should get on that TB12 method and let Brady's weird trainer rub his thighs. Brady has had such great longevity because of his flexibility which is what the TB12 stuff is all about. It's literally built for quarterbacks to absorb hits because their body bends with the hits. Wilson is on the smaller side with rather narrow shoulders. It'd help him. Funny how that dickhead tries to sell that program to other non-QB athletes and fitness people and they eat it up.
I expect at the very least flashes of the special player I was promised. I never believed in Darnold pre or post draft but he was good for the occasional flashes of brilliance which injected brief shots of hope in between the despair.
