Maybe, but Cimini is a journalist for ESPN, not sone schlep with a podcast. Journalist should report, not make speculations like that. Seriously, a little investigation would reveal his recovery from an illness and that the GM still loves the kid. He's not getting cut. It's bullshit and Cimini does that shit to get clicks and recognition. "Denzel Mims, recovering from a severe bout of food poisoning having lost 15lbs, has been buried on the depth chart this summer. Most of his work has come as a backup. However, the front office still has faith in last year's 2nd round pick, as they expect him to build off of last year's production when healthy - 15ypc." See the difference?
The illness was not some secret I heard about it in a pod a little while ago. Also we have no idea if it’s the reason he’s down on the depth chart. Believing it’s the reason is pure speculation as well.
Except it's not speculation according to Saleh, who specifically mentioned that he's being brought along slowly because of his illness. If this is the hill you choose to die on, so be it, but I don't know what your point is. I'm saying Cimini posted some bullshit without even inquiring about it and it got picked by national news outlets. That's it.
During his July 31 press conference, Robert Saleh cleared this up a bit. “Yeah so he’s working through some things,” the Jets HC said regarding Mims, “but him coming back [from illness] and working into the groove, all those receivers are part of a rotation, so you see guys, 1s, 2s, 3s and if I look at the rep count it’s darn-near even all the way across the board to give all those guys the same opportunities and the looks and to be able to put them in positions where we know that they’re going to be able to get the ball based on a play.” He added: “[Mims] is a very talented young man and it’s going to piece together for him, we just gotta keep working with him.” Translation: A win for the Mims-truthers that noted how early it is in camp. The sophomore out of Baylor still isn’t a starter, but he’ll easily make this roster and factor into the Jets system when it counts. https://www.google.com/amp/s/heavy....rt-saleh-sheds-light-jets-wide-receivers/amp/
An unpopular opinion ≠ trolling. The more everyone gets mad at Legler, the more it detracts from talking about football.
We root for the Jets, so on some level, everyone is trolling everyone. Even when strangers ask, "are you a Jet fan" - I feel like their trolling me.
Haha that was copied and pasted from the article. Those aren't my words, even the TRANSLATION part. But you're right. I was more focused on the first part.
I would've taken Lance over Wilson. How's that for an unpopular take. But, I am rooting for Zach to have success.
I don't think it is fair or rational at all. There's reasonable speculation based on some evidence and there's pulling out of your ass because you want to find something to be negative about and get clicks. It doesn't take into account the rookie season Mims had with injuries, no OTAs or minicamp, no preseason, a shorter TC, a horrible CS, an awful QB who could never seem to find him or even look for him, and then he was sick for two weeks and lost a bunch of weight. Nothing about JD or Saleh have indicated that they will give up on a player taken high in the draft after one year. Nothing. Nothing has said that they're displeased with him. In fact to the contrary, they have spoken positively about him, about how he's working hard, making improvement, and coming on. Saying we're only keeping so many WRs isn't relevant, either. It's true, but Mims has never been in any danger of not making the roster. To think otherwise is just warped, delusional thinking or someone with an agenda.
Well I'm not sure what you want. Only 5 or 6 WRs will make the team. If he was running with the twos that puts Mims squarely on the bubble especially since he doesn't play special teams if hes running with the 3s, hes on the outside lookin in A beat reporter is supposed to speculate that he's a lock to make the roster in those scenarios? ... why?
People saying that practice is for seeing what you can and cant get away with are correct - a little. That's not the main point of practice though. More important is that the fundamentals of an NFL QB are practiced, learned, and refined. Zach needs to adjust to the speed of the game, and his receivers, to get the bread and butter throws tightened down. Whatever adjustments to his throwing motion, footwork, etc should be drilled. Also, developing some chemistry/feel with the OL, backs, etc. Were not just sending him out there to see what he can and cant get away with. We can maybe get away with that rational for another week before its time to see noticeable progress on being an NFL QB.
what? haha how is that NOT relevant? The very discussion is about who will (and wont) make the team. Roster numbers are the single most important factor in making those decisions.
